| The oil should be kept away from the skin, correct? Is this difficult to do if the hair isn't wrapped? Here is a very old, but interesting thread on oil: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-coat-oil.html |

| If you put oil in the coat, know that oil is going to catch any/all dirt/dust. They become moving mops throughout the home. There are many people that use oil without wraps, but I wouldn't use lanolin for this. Lanolin is a great product, just can't imagine a dog running around in it. May I suggest a couple of things. I like to keep things simple. As minimal products/steps as possible. It's better for the dog, easier to manage. Find one product, one step etc. Save time, grow coat. Never brush a dirty coat. Seabreeze diluted with water, spray it, brush the coat to spread it out. Keep dog out of places that he will gather dirt. Buy tiny bunchies from Wallmart to use for pinning coat out of areas that you don't want it dragging when you are out. Areas such as hind quarter and right in front of it where he may pee on his coat. There are many great products available to use. This mink oil requires many new applications, without a nice smell. Pure paws light oil is decent. I'd stay away from many of the ones that are not intended for hair care. You may try to put him in a spray in conditioner such as ice on ice. Then rinse it out if you go someplace. It is greasy enough. It doesn't have to be oil. A light oil is okay for the skin. You don't put lanolin on the skin. I've heard mixed things things from others about oil and the skin. |
