| Unsure about Grooming...what to ask for? Hi all, Bailey's about a year and a half and I've only had her groomed once, around Thanksgiving. I trim around her face and bottom every once in a while, but her overall hair is growing pretty long and I think for summer I should get it cut. I wasn't very happy with her last groom. When I took her in I didn't really know what to ask for but I said maybe like a puppy cut. The lady said her hair is very thin and if they gave her a puppy cut she would look bald? Anyone know what she's talking about? They kept it longer, which is fine, but I didn't like how blunt it looked. I guess I would like her looking more shaggy/teddy bear cut-ish. So, with the thin hair thing in mind, what should I tell them to do this time? I will probably be trying a new place. The first two pictures I attached are after the last grooming. The third is about what she's looking like now.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i can't really tell what they did the last time because the pictures don't show her whole body. When the groomer said she had thin hair and didn't want to bald her, she might have meant that if she did a really short puppy cut you'd be able to see her skin because her hair is sparse, but i'm not sure. I haven't seen this on a young yorkie after being shaved. also i find it hard to do a shaggy puppy cut on a silky coat. its always just going to lay down flat and not stick up or out to make it shaggy/fluffy. her head can be trimmed into the "teddy bear" or short round head but again you need to remember that her hair is very silky and won't fluff out. here is a picture of mine. she has a cotton coat and her hair does do the teddy bear, shaggy look.

| That's so cute! Both babies look adorable. That's interesting about how the hair falls, I would have never thought of it. Maybe the OP can browse YT for pictures so she can get a better idea of what she wants, then talk to the groomer to see if it's possible with Bailey's hair type.

| I like the way Pixie's hair looks. I think the thing I didn't like is they cut Bailey's hair straight across, instead of leaving more layers. I know she's got a silky coat so it won't be fluffy, but that doesn't mean it can't have definition to it. I was on the other computer when I originally posted, but now I can post a full body picture from right after her groom.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | ah, now that's a better picture. That is typically what groomers do with the skirt. it gets cut either straight across or at an angle with a defined tuck up (which i think that's what your groomer did). it looks good to me. If you want something a little different you can ask her to do exactly the same thing but layer the hair on her body a little with thinning shears so that its all not one length straight across. I use a comb and thinners to get that layered look. i back comb across the side and thin as i move the comb. and if you want a teddy bear face you can ask her to go a little shorter and rounder then last time.

| Thanks, I think that's what I want is a little more layering.
