| ![]() I've used the coconut oil in my furs food for almost a year now and they have awesome coats, shiney and no itching or dry skin. It is also great for human use and I use it on my diet...(lost 55 lbs.)

I am just using it as a dietary supplement now except sometimes on Bentley because he has more of a cottony coat and it makes it really soft and shiny.

Dwerten and Yorkies Mom, do you put the coconut oil directly on the food, or do you feed it separately?

| ![]() i put it on hot spots and i was up to 1/4 tsp daily of it after her breakfast i put on plate and she licks it up and loveeeeesssss it - i started slow 1/8 every other day first week 1/8 daily then 1/4 every other day then 1/4 daily - it can cause diarrhea if too much too fast. I only use it on dd my allergy dog as dex had pancreatitis so i am not big on using fatty acids in pancreatitis dogs and I do not use in demi - i use for dd as she has allergy issues and that and probiotics kept her from having staph and diarrhea issues and i stopped 2/09 to 1/4/2010 and i had a mess of a year - she had staph and clostridium so i know probiotics and coconut oil work for dogs with skin issues |

The kind of fat and quantity of fat is a matter of debate. There are mixed opinions about coconut oil. I do not give it as a formal daily supplement, but my dogs have it fairly often. As stated above, if your dogs do not have any health issues, start slowly with a few licks and gradually increase. Maybe others will weigh in on how much they give their little Yorkies daily.

They can process fat, but shouldn't have much. I used to give mine a pinky nail sized amount for each meal until they decided they didn't like it much.

| ![]() I'm starting to try lo poo techniques for my own hair and one of the nurturing tips was to put it on hair and let it sit for a couple of hours, so I did Tequila's hair while I was at it, but left it for half the time. She loved licking it but I think the smell was a bit overwhelming for her since she was rubbing against the bathroom walls most of the time. I had to rinse thoroughly twice with shampoo and also conditioned. Her hair was so soft afterwards! Here's a picture of her during the wait! |
