| What is the best shampoo/conditioner I would like some suggestions on the best shampoo/conditioner for bathing my yorkie . He is a 3 1/2 year old rescue (was in the foster home for a year) and his foster mom said he was really good when getting a bath. Well, I've had him three weeks and last week gave him a bath in the laundry sink with some tearless puppy shampoo. He never tried to jump out of the sink but he was scared to death and wouldn't hold still. His coat is very healthy as his foster mom took excellent care of him (she has 3 yorkies of her own.) Needless to say it was a short bath and I was soaked. What's the best shampoo/conditioner and any suggestions and how do I get him to enjoy bath time? Thanks in advance for the help and Happy Holidays!

| A lot of people here on YT use Minksheen and swear by it. I just got my sample bottle of it so I'm probably using it on Jackson tonight - let you know how I like it. Petsmart now sells BioGroom and Pet Head. I've used BioGroom and liked it a lot but never tried Pet Head. As for getting him to like a bath... I always gave Jackson a really yummy treat before and after bath time. Something like a bit of ham, or cheese, or chicken, etc, anything that's in my fridge at the time. Bath time is not something he enjoys but he puts up with it and sits still for me. I would just do it slowly. Maybe put him in the tub without any water, and treat him, and then allow him to get out of the tub. Do this a few times, then add a bit of water, etc. I think it's all about patience and calmness especially with a rescue.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | My first suggestion about bath time is find out how his previous owner did it. I use a spray attachment on my taps to wash lil Razz. Most pet stores carry the attachment and it is pretty cheap too. If you liked the condition of his coat when you got him find out what his previous owner used. Everyone has lots of different favourites here. I was told by one person (a long time breeder/exhibitor) that stick with #1 all systems, Chris Christensen, or Biogroom. You can try other things but you'd just be wasting your money. Her opinion not mine. lol For Razzle who has a silk coat I use #1 All Systems Shampoo and Conditioner. Also I use Plush Puppy Shampoo and conditioner for his facial furnishings. These were recommended by my breeder for his coat. I also use Drape as a leave in conditioner (not on show days though). I really like the Drape. Personally i think it is fun to try different shampoos and stuff - also can be economical if you get free samples n stuff.

| I requested samples from Biogroom and they came today (2 oz. bottles of two different shampoos and a conditioner. The oatmeal shampoo was one of them.) Can't wait to get Toby smelling good!

| We have been using Vellus Shampoo and Satin Creme for the past year. It has made a huge difference in their hair and we love it. Good luck with your rescued little one. One of ours is a rescue and the other a retired show girl! She was VERY SUCCESSFUL but was unable to produce puppies so she was "let go". Caesar and Lacy are both 6 years old right now and rule our household. |

| I just ordered Yorkie Splash and Shine shampoo and conditioner from YT member Walnut Hill and it is awesome. My babies have never smelled this good. It is awesome and she makes and bottles it herself. I also use biogroom and CC but as of right now the Yorkie Splash and Shine is the best. Their coats look awesome too.

| Yorkie Splash and Shine all the way!!!! My babies had their bath yesterday and when we got up this morning they still smelled wonderful!!!! That isn't always the case with the CC and Petsilk shampoos. The smell fades quickly on them. I have also used Show Seasons, Best Shot, Biogroom, The Spa series by Tropiclean. I am going to stick with the Yorkie Splash and Shine, even my husband commented on how soft and good the babies smelled!! I will still use the Ice on Ice by CC though!! Love that stuff!!!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I don't know of a way to make them enjoy their bath time but it can be made less stressful for them. I continually speak in a calm re-assuring tone of voice when bathing, make certain the water is at a consistent, nice warm temperature (not too hot though!), move slowly (fast movements seem to scare them). Some of the rescues I've fostered act afraid of the spray nozzle, so I try to limit it's use and keep it on the gentlest spray possible. It does get better, but some of mine never enjoy baths, they just tolerate them. I've used Iv San Bernard products for almost two years now and have yet to find anything I like as well as their products. Their PEK conditioner is absolutely, hands down, the best hair conditioner -my Reno's long coat slips through my hands like silk pouring out of a faucet.
