| ![]() Has anyone used Angel Eyes tear stain remover for their yorkie? I've seen it used mainly on white coat dogs. Does it really work and should I get 60 grams or 120 grams? Also, my dogs are picky eaters, so is the powder tasty enough for them to want it? Thanks in advance.

| ![]() Well, I used this with my first maltese puppy and I saw very little improvement after 6 weeks. But then my puppy died ![]() Angel Eyes works for some dogs, then again it doesn't work for others. There are many other natural ways to help with tear stains without putting antibiotics in there system. Read through this thread on the maltese forum about tear staining:Spoiled Maltese - the largest maltese dog forum and website. Here's another method: Spoiled Maltese - the largest maltese dog forum and website An quote from the site: "Once your pup stops teething and you find he still has tearstain problems, you can try Tylan powder from your vet. Angel Eyes is a dilluted form of Tylan powder that contains both Tylan and beef liver to make it taste better. I would recommend going with the regular Tylan over the Angel Eyes because it is MUCH cheaper and seems to work faster. Usually you will do a 10-day course of the Tylan, and if the new growth doesn't come out white, you can do another 10-day course. After doing two courses, if there is still new staining, there is an underlying problem such as allergies, tear duct blockage, shape of the eye, eyelashes growing inward toward the eye, etc. Keep in mind that Tylan is an antibiotic and there may be long-term consequences that you will have to consider. Any of the topical eye treatments don't seem to work well, and this includes Eye Envy, Stay White, Angel Eyes, etc. I think only a few people have had long-term success with these methods. Yes, a teaspoon of plain nonfat/lowfat (organic if available) yogurt can help improve the staining." This is from a top maltese breeder website, basically explains more in detail causes and cures: http://www.bhejei.com/tearsta.htm Hope this all helps! | ![]() ![]() ![]() I didn't read the Maltese links Briana provided but this is what worked for my Yorkie's tearing. I asked my vet for some Tylan but instead she gave me a small pill bottle of tetracycline powder and told me to mix a TINY amount with his food once a day for a week. I also started giving him distilled water exclusively (suggested by a friend who raises Maltese) for his drinking water. I'm not sure which of the two methods worked, but within a week his eyes quit tearing and we've never had a problem since. The tetracycline powder was $5, much less than a bottle of Angel Eyes. I would suggest using the distilled water for a week or two and if that doesn't help, ask your vet for some tetracycline powder and see if that will solve your problem. Good luck!

| ![]() I forgot to add that the tetracycline is bitter tasting so I mixed it with cottage cheese and my dog wolfed it down. ![]()

| ![]() I just started using angel eyes for Callie. She will eat anything, so I can't vouch for the taste. I believe Callie has red yeast eye infection. This is what Angel eyes is good for. If the eye boogies arent a dark red in color, angel eyes might not help. I have been using for 3 weeks and have seen some improvement. I got the small bottle on Ebay. I intend to stop using it after a month.

| ![]() I also recently became acquainted with the Angel Eyes product. I don't use it because I first want to know if I have to. I just want to know if the tear staining that you are talking about is the boogers that sit beneath their eyes? Both of mine have this and I never realized that there was something I could do to get rid of it permanently. None of the topical stuff works, I just used Vaseline to protect the hair (I put it on the hair in the inner corner of their eyes). It would be so great if Tylan or the other thing could get rid of this!

| ![]() That's awesome.. I like how you only use it for a little and don't have to use it ever again after that. My friend said it worked on her dog and she doesn't even use it anymore.

| ![]() The problem with Angel Eyes is you have to use it long term and it's not good to give antibiotics that long. Also, since there is liver in the product, if your dog is allergic to liver you compound the problem thus having to keep using the product. Once your pup stops teething and you find he/she still has tearstain problems, you can try Tylan powder from your vet. Angel Eyes is a dilluted form of Tylan powder that contains both Tylan and beef liver to make it taste better. Many SM members have successfully used Tylan, and others feel it is uneccessary.Any of the topical eye treatments don't seem to work well, and this includes Eye Envy, Stay White, etc. I think only a few people have had long-term success with these methods. A teaspoon of plain nonfat/lowfat (organic if available) yogurt can sometimes help improve the staining. ![]() |

| ![]() I know this a bit late in the game but... My sisters Maltese has had the red stains in and off for years. It helps for awhile and then I guess a tolerance builds up. I was there this summer and used about 1/8th to 1/4 the amount and it cleared up my Yorkies tearing. I told my sis that it has an antibiotic in it but she didn't believe me. Then she gets frustrated because it doesn't go away after a while. I'm trying to find something else for my Yorkie instead. He doesn't tear here like he did at her place. She has tile floors and I have carpet. I vac twice a week with a good filtered vacuum cleaner and I know that helps. Her floors only get cleaned once a week and not very well. I truly feel keeping your floors as clean as you can helps this. After all, they are very close to the floor being so small or short. If you find something else that you think is better, please email me a message. Would be greatful. Patti |
