bathing questions hi everyone, toby will be 9 weeks next week... i was wondering if i should give him a bath? he is a boy so he kinda pees on himself on his belly, so o i would like to wash him, and i'm pretty sure i read yorkies need baths every 1-2 weeks? so is ok to give him one? i was going to do it tomorrow.... or is he still too little? and then, if i do give him a bath, should i let him air dry? or blow dry? i dont want to totally freak him out. it's still chilly here in ny (50's) but at least 65 degrees in the house, i could always crank it up for bath time too... any suggestions? do it? wait? thanks guys

Yes you can bath him. And about the pee on his belly, you can cut off the hair on the tip of his little thing. VERY CAREFULLY of coarse.

You can have the groomer do a "sanitary" cut which eliminates the hair around their little "parts" - makes potty much cleaner. With Remy, I do not bathe him weekly but will wash off his pee-pee and bum after potty to keep him clean

I have a female, but in my "Yorkie's for Dummies" book they recommend wiping the penis area everyday because of peeing a bit on themselves. BTW....great book for anyone who is new to Yorkie's.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | its ok to give him a bath. just make sure its a warm bath and you keep him warm afterwards. i've always taken a blow dryer to my yorkie (and cats) after bathing to get them dry quickly. never had a problem. I also bath every week. As far as the sanitary area you can ask a groomer to trim it up if you are unsure or you can do it yourself. some just trim the hair on the penis and others will trim that and the area around it to keep him clean.
