| Yorkie Coat Colors? Help? OK, this isn't majorly important or anything, and it's more about the colors of coats instead of grooming. My yorkie, (8 years old), the runt in her litter, has a changing coat. By that I mean, as a puppy she was black/tan. After a while she turned tan/grey or blue- not sure which it would be. Now she is showing small and SLOW signs of more tan in the grey portion of her coat. I dont know why, (even the I KNOW she is a purebred) but she has never had that long straigt coat. I groom her every day by brushing. But it's curly...eventually I cut it short (or went to a groomers) I think it's cuter, and helps her move around and play outside like she loves to do. Any answers on wether she will eventually be a full tan yorkie? |

| She's 8 years old? I thought their colors stopped changing by like 2 or 3 at the latest.

| Thats what I thought too...but she's 8 and her tiny little tail is becoming tan. Also, and this is new, when I bathe her- you can definatly see tan on her back. |

| Sometime hormones can cause it. Even food can play a part. I feed carrots as a treat to my yorkies back a few years ago and once they got too many, the effect was their coats started to have orange highlights. Disappeared when I stopped. It could also be genetics or since she gets her hair cut often this may also paly a part. One of my yorkies ended up loosing a very small patch of her hair where her tail begins (she had a litter that kept messing the hair there in that location). It grew back black instead of the blue like it use to be. I know a person that had her yorkie loose some of its hair on its back - accident with a fence. It grew back with the ginger brown highlights mixed in with the coat in that location only. |
