| First Grooming Im taking my 4.5 months old puppy to his first grooming tomorrow. Anything I need to do before or afterwards to prevent too much trauma on him or will he enjoy this experience? Anything I should tell the groomer? I like the hair as short as possible, including the face. I see a lot of Summer Cuts or "Puppy Cuts" where the body is shaved very short but the legs and face are left long haired. Does anyone actually cut everything short? Pictures? |

| It's Cold Outside Here in New York, it's really cold so a summer cut might leave your baby cold unless you plan to keep clothing on him all the time. Your groomer should set the tone by the way he/she welcomes your baby. Our groomer takes Johnny and makes him feel comfortable-holding, petting, talking to him, and talking to me about what I'd like. One thing I never thought about was how you'd like the hair on the bridge of the nose handled. Some groomers trim the hair while others leave it to grow and drape over the nose, down the sides of the muzzle. Some grooming styles may depend on the type of hair your baby has too--silky or cottony- and if there are knots or tangles. Hope you have as great an experience as we've had.

| Good timing on this thread! I'm taking Turky in an hour for his 'spa day'. I'm a little nervous for some reason. I hope he is comfortable while he's there..he's gets a bit nervous around other dogs and I'm hoping the groomer and him will hit it off. |

| Is it really bad to shave them down so much? What if I put him in a sweater everytime we go out? (I live in NY.) |

| I'd tell them I want the puppy cut including the face and legs. Maybe go to a groomers where you can stay with your baby.

Did u want your Yorkie shaved down because of matts? My Suzi needs A groom and if I allowed her to be shaved down I am thinking that all the silver gray would appear .I can see the color changes already in her coat , on the bottom layer. She is 10 , months old. I am tempted to do it..

| My Charlie has silky hair. I want to shave him down to see how small he is - I know it's a bad reason but I just got him a few weeks ago and his hair is making him look a lot bigger. |

| If you just want to see that, then take a look at him wet after a bath. That pretty much shows you how small they are. It also shows you what their body shape looks like, and not all Yorkies look good with so little hair. My Tiki looked long and skinny after her first grooming (about 1" hair), and I've been growing it out since August cause it didn't look good.

| Daisy and Skippy's puppy cuts for the country. We live in the country. We have stickers and it's either real hot or cold. These are the pictures from this summer. You can see I go for function and not so much style. I have my 5# Skippy get a puppy cut every time. His hair is downy and mats very easy. He has a short stocky body. He's so cute with it being cut about 1/2 inch or a little less. I have the groomer cut the hair on his nose very close. I leave his face a tiny bit longer for the cuteness of it. I have 9# Daisy get a puppy cut about 1" because she has a very scrawny body shape. Her hair is more silky and easy to comb. I have the groomer leave the bottom of her legs and face longer to show her beautiful golden hair. We are lucky that puppy hair grows fast so you can gradually develop your own look for your puppy. I take them in every 6 weeks. Please send pictures when you get back. |
