| Oily Coat...... Captain Jack is about 6 1/2 months old now. When I bathe him his coat looks oily again by the next day!!! I am a groomer, so I have tried different shampoos and such, but nothing works!! I have read that they go thru an oily stage, but does anyone know how long this is gonna last???? He was neutered at about 5 months. I never really had this problem with my Max, so I don't know what to do! Cap goes to work and everywhere else with me, he's kind of a "walking advertisement" so he's gotta look good! (I wonder if I can count "walking advertisement" off on my taxes) Did anyone else go thru this with thier little ones?? If so how long did it last, and how did you deal with it Also I have read that having an oily coat now means his coat will be a certain way at maturity. I can't remember what though...cotton or silk or what??? Thanks Jessica

Although its only on her head... is this the same with your baby or is all over his body?? I only use oatmeal shampoo and a cream rinse on her since I think she has sensitive skin. Hopefully this bump will get others to help you.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Pixie has the straight silky coat and she looks oily alot. I have to be very careful with shampoo and conditoners. Petsilk makes her look greasy right after her bath. I have been using coat handler on her and a very diluted conditioner.

| Lucy is a cutey! Not sure if this helps, but with humans, if you dab a bit of babypowder it is supposed to make your hair less oily...maybe you could try that with your yorkie?

| I tried not using a conditioner at all...that didn't help. I also tried the baby powder....that just made him white and greasy!!! Some one also told me to rub a dryer sheet over his hair. That just made him smell like gain, but still greasy!!! I will try the minksheen. I REALLY hope it is just a stage! Max was silky coat, but he didn't go thru this! I just keep trying new things! Maybe the minksheen or will work. if not i will try the coat handler! Thanks Jessica

| Do you guys remember some jerk saying that Yorkies were greasy little dogs with bad teeth? - GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Sadie looks a little oily after a few days - she get her bath every Sunday. Maybe you're using too much conditioner?? Just a thought - and seing that your a professional groomer - probably not the case - but just thought I'd toss it out there. Good Luck!!!

| My girl has a cotton oily coat. She looks dirty 2 days after a bath and by day 7 she looks like I've neglected her. I've tried what I can get locally and nothing really worked. I got a sample of minksheen a couple of weeks ago. It did help quite a bit, she lasted about 4 days before starting to get really greasy looking. My only problem with the minksheen is the smell of it. It is sooooooo strong. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Beatrice gets oily too Hi there, when we brought Beatrice home she was 8 1/2 months old.She had been given a bath the morning we picked her up,so she looked fabulous. In about 2 days she was getting greasy looking. We bathed her after it was a week, I thought she might have been greasy because the breeder may have used to much conditioner.I noticed that she had some bumps that looked like pimples on her body in different places. She seemed to scratch these places alot.First we thought that it could be a food allergy, but we were giving her the same food that the breeder was.Eventually we took her to the vet because she was getting more bumps and I was bathing her,but she was still getting greasy within a couple of days. The vet said that she had a bacterial skin infection, which was causing the pimples...just like a teenager he said that she produced too much sebum and she had acne. So, we had to put her on anti-biotics and the infection cleared up.She still gets greasy, but not as quickly as she used too.he vet said she may always have this problem and it's not uncommon on coated breeds. He also said that she cold grow out of it, just like people do.But ,I do remember with my last yorkie went through the same thing, but with age and maturity, she seemed to grow out of it. Already beatrice seems to be less oily than she used to be,so I use the same shampoo and conditioner as I always did,She has very long fine, silky hair.....so there is no way that I could not use the conditioner.I just rinse for a very long time. |

| Hey Carl, what shampoo and conditioner do you use on Bea? I am looking for something great for Ryder's super straight, fine, silky hair. I am assuming they have similar coat type (wishing over here!!!).

| Umm, what don't I use?? I am addicted to skin and hair care for myself, which has conveniently transfered over to my dogs and horses I use the Earthbath tearless puppy formula for faces, and the Biogroom oatmeal shampoo and conditioner if they are dry, and the Chris Christensen Day to Day shampoo and conditioner (not crazy about), but I LOVE the CC Ice on Ice- it is a spray on detangler, coat protectant, and I also have #1 All Systems shampoo and conditioner and some stuff from the vet that is soapless and hypoallergenic. I wanted to try my Aveda stuff on them but not sure if it's ok? Also, Tigi just came out with a line for pets, Pet Head, which a friend of mine has used and loved.
