| Wraps From what I understand, you can get away with NOT wrapping if you don't intend to show your Yorkie. If I don't plan do show, but want to grow out my Yorkie's coat full length, will it still look okay without the wrapping step? I love the look of the silky flowing full Yorkie coat, but if 90% of the time it ends up being frizy or greasy or broken, then there is not much point. I realize the answer is very subjective, variable, or dependent on the circumstances. So, I thought I'd see if anyone could chime in on personal experiences / trial and error. Thanks in advance. |

| My breeder has show dogs and she only wraps the males and not the females. She only wraps the males to protect their coat from urine. I don't wrap my girls and they have long coats that aren't greasy, broken, or frizzy. I don't think ALL dogs need to be wrapped.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Wrapping the coat also requires skills. If someone doesn't wrap the dog's coat properly, the purpose of the wraps becomes defeated as the coat would become more damaged. Another alternative one may do is to apply oil or any conditioning/protective coating to the hair and section the hair like in wrapping but only do banding. It's a great way to also keep the coat away from the butt without the more extensive effort wrapping requires. Just make sure to cut the bands when removing them and don't re-use them to prevent coat damage. The type of flooring also affects the coat. When the flooring is carpeted or when your dog is always playing on grassy surface, if you intend to keep the hair long, you have to do banding or wrapping so the ends won't get damaged.
