| Help: Baby turns into monster at groomers Hi there. My little guy is just coming up to his first birthday, and hates going to the groomers. I have tried every groomer in town and they all say that they cannot groom him because he wriggles and bits too much. He is starting to look scruffy because he is way overdue for a trim... Any suggestions as to how to calm him down? Thanks

| You may have to do it yourself..lol My sister had a little one that didn't liked to be groomed... You should have taken him more often when he was younger..don't take that the wrong way...it would have adjusted better at a younger age. You will just need to find someone who has patience and that will work on him a little bit...then give him a break..then trim some more! |

| Loki got upset and stressed at groomers that did other dogs at the same time. We finally found an amazing groomer who grooms one dog at a time in her home and even lets me stay. Loki stands like a show dog for her and isn't afraid at all. Sammy is very wiggly. The groomer lets me stay and help hold her and she improves every time. We cuddle her after her bath and give her treats the whole time! I would seriously start asking other people you see with nicely groomed dogs who their groomer is. My groomer doesn't advertise and I found her through a friend that went there. Also, try cutting nails yourself. That is the most stressful part for many dogs. I always cut nails before we go so that we can skip that part. Just do one or two nails at a time and you can distract him with treats or peanut butter (smear it on something and let him lick it.) He could also be afraid of the dryer or the clippers so slowly let him get used to that. We barely did ANYTHING the first time Sammy got groomed - just trimmed her feet and butt a little. Each time we did more and now she can get through a full groom. I hope that helps!

| Mojo doesn't like the groomers either....all the loud sounds, the loud dogs in their cages, etc. Just wanted to add...Mojo had been to the groomers since he was tiny....and I have all of Lily's grooming records too (I had a folder of papers when I got her)....so, I think it depends on the dog too! We have a good groomer that grooms out of her home, but she is really loud (talks loudly), but she is good and lets us stay...Mojo just does not like her at all. She can groom him and he is okay, but he gets really nervous. We have been grooming at home for a long time now....Mojo loves to have his hair brushed and cut, but hates the bath part. LilyGrace loves the bath, but hates the brushing/cutting. They both do well with me clipping their nails. Mojo likes to lay on his back while I clip and massage his feet...Lily likes to stand while I do hers.
