| Help-what kind of hair cut do I ask for? Ok poor Cooper needs a haircut, he is 5 1/2 mos old and this will be his first haircut. I spoke to a groomer today that has her "masters" license or degree in pet grooming. I wanted to talk to her to find out more about her, how long he will have to be there, the type of cut etc. She said we will do what ever you tell us to, I told her this is new to me, my first Yorkie and told her I wanted a puppy cut.....she said well the only puppy cut there is a poodle cut. " I have been a groomer for years, a master groomer and the only puppy cut there is, is for poodles". Anyway I explained she is the professional which is why I am asking her what I would request, as I do not want a shock to come back to get him to find out someone shaved him down.....anyway I will NOT be going to her, she was very rude and snippy..if she treats me this way I can only imagine how she might treat my baby if she is having a bad day. When I take him to get his first cut what do I ask for if it is NOT the puppy cut?

She must have gotten her "masters" in poodle grooming then. Does she think that there is only one breed of puppies? Another groomer will likely know what you mean by a puppy cut..other popular cuts for yorkies are the westie cut or the schnauzer cut. But you need to know yourself what you want/like and then tell them EXACTLY what it is that you want. Be as specific as you can and maybe even find a picture and take it with you. Good luck......I'm sure Cooper will be adorable no matter what, and remember, it will always grow back. Post before and after pics afterwards so we can see!

| We found a good groomer through our local Yorkie meetup club (www.meetup.com then look for owners of Yorkies, if you sign up it doesn't mean you have to attend but you can look at the pics of their Yorkies). But while we were searching, I googled "Yorkie images" and "Yorkshire terrier images" and found several cute pictures of cuts we liked which we printed out to show the groomers. We went to a couple of different ones before we found the one we like, and she's reasonable! Btw, I could put up a pic of her cut if you like when I get home and you can see if it's what you want. The one in the pic I have as my avatar is before she got her hair cut. The groomer calls her current cut a puppy cut but it's definitely not a poodle cut. | If you could put up a picture that would be awesome!!! I never even thought of taking a picture of some examples of what I want. This lady I spoke to, "master groomer" was like tell us what blade # you want where.....like I have a clue. I am going to google also to get some ideas, again GREAT IDEA!! thank you!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I'd suggest you find a picture of how you want the cut to look and bring it in to whichever groomer you choose. We get Eddie a puppy cut all the time, and this is the picture we give them.

| Sounds like that groomer is full of cr@p I'd search elsewhere. If she's a "master" I'll eat my hat!

| Well I would say don't take a picture to that master groomer. I don't think a picture is going to help you come out with what you want. Remember if they don't have an Ideal how to explain the different cuts to you. Then that probably isn't the groomer you need. Especially if you have to tell her what blade she needs to use. You would probaby have to do the cut after that also. Surprising but you find alot of groomers that only know how to do certain types of dogs. That isn't the one you want starting on your baby or you will be crying. I have been through a few of those. Never again found a good one and hope she never leaves. Good Luck. You told the lady the right thing she just doesn't know what a yorkie is probably. She needs to look it up....ha ha

| Thanks to everyone for your input!!! It was very helpful.....I found another groomer all the way on the other side of town, that my brother uses. I felt totally safe with her, she was very caring and it was all about what I wanted!! Anyway below is the before and after....the before was of course with no barett or pony in.....I think it is maybe just a touch shorter than I will go next time but think he looks so handsome and all grown up now.
