| I just dropped in here to see what was happening and saw this thread. How funny - I got Max at Puppy Boutique also and got the exact same story that he'd be 4 lbs. full grown. He's a little over a year old and weighs in at about 7 lbs. He is also from the back room. I expected them to come out with a 3 legged mutant chicken, but they brought him out and I also fell in love. He's not AKC - he's DKC (??) which I never bothered with and his papers are ridiculous. His breeder gave the store's address as hers. However, he is healthy, adorable and a good little dog, and I paid $750 for him. I wouldn't go back there, hut I'm happy with him. I know someone who used to work there and she swears they're okay and that their dogs are good. World of Pets does have the worst reputation in Brooklyn as far as selling sick pets, but they carry pretty much everything I need except food. Petland Discounts is now carrying Merrick food, but I don't like their treats. Next time, I want to get a home bred dog. Are there any good, affordable breeders like that in the tri-state area?

| I checked out Max's breeder on a website I found on another thread here, and in 1999 there were 63 adult dogs and 43 pups there. Puppy Boutique is the same as Puppy Petite which has a terrible reputation. I know 2 young women who used to work at Puppy Boutique. They work at Max's day care place. They said if I go back to only ask for a certain worker and to tell him I know them, etc., etc I'd hesitate to go back. It seems to me that this breeder had an awful lot of dogs. Is that a puppy mill? I really don't know yet. I'm going to check on YT to see what other people think.

Unfortunately yes that is a typical puppy mill. Next time you are looking for a puppy please look for reputable breeders only. Make sure you see the parents and ask lots of questions, such as; is there a health guarantee for at least a year, was the puppy bile acid tested, what defects run in their lines, etc. Also remember reputable breeders will ask you lots of questions too, since they want the best homes for their babies. One more thing, a reputable breeder will never let anyone else sell their puppies (like a pet store or a broker) since they really want to meet you and decide for themselves if their puppy will be a good fit for you. Hope this helps!

| The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America has a breeder referral service. Their breeders agree to a code of ethics and most states are represented. I got both of mine from breeders in Connecticut and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the YTCA referral. Here is the link to the website. http://www.ytca.org/breeder3.html
