I will agree to disagree on the topic of this breeder. Kim Balas is involved in showing yorkies so I am sure she knows that the Yorkie is in the toy breed category. What she is trying to caution people on that are new to the breed is watch out for people who want to sell their dogs at large prices by putting the name "teacup" on them or any other tag. The dogs that she sells to pet homes are always spayed/neutered before going to their new homes. I don't think someone breeding for $$$$ or for the wrong reasons would go this extra mile.
I had a positive experience with this breeder and actually dealt face to face with Kim's husband, Bob. I went to their home and saw where the puppies were raised and how happy they were. Lulu is a happy, healthy, beautiful little girl. That is all that matters in my mind.
For those of you that looked at the website and saw something and didn't like it, go ahead and continue to be judgmental. That is your right. Don't buy a puppy there. Caution people to be wary of the words on the site and ask the breeder about it. But to stretch that into saying a breeder is cruel to her animals without knowing that firsthand, is in my opinion, plain wrong. I stand by my statement on that. |
The only way we have to judge some of these breeders is by their websites, websites can be very deceiving, and I never suggest anyone buy a dog from a website. The problem is that many breeders have learned to "talk the talk, but not walk the walk". What does that mean? It means that they know what to say to perspective buyers to seem "reputable", after all they are salesmen, and learn what works. My point is when a breeder puts such an obvious error on their page such as: Quote:
You may speak to breeders trying to push "Toy" or "Teacup" Yorkies. Per the AKC standard and the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, there is no such thing as a Toy or Teacup Yorkie. Yorkies can vary in size, and there are some that are smaller than others.

It means they are trying to "talk the talk", but they don't even know what they are saying. Now if you wish to ignore this or excuse it, that is your privilege, but I will have to argue with you if you want to say it's unimportant, it shows an extreme lack of knowledge about the breed. A word of warning also, showing means very little, anyone can show, and some people call themselves show breeders who have never even won a title for their dog. I don't see any pedigrees or showing information on her website, but I do see words such as adorable "baby doll faces" which the YTCA forbids it's breeders from using. I'm glad you had a postive experience, and I hope the experience continues to be positive, and I'm truely glad that you took the time to go to the breeders home, and saw for yourself how the dogs were being treated, too many people overlook this important step, and this is such a vidal step in the process of doing away with puppy mills. |
