And some people do not realize just how big New York is, but Rochester is like 7 hours away from NYC - not close at all. I got my first yorkie from a breeder in Queens. I don't think she's breeding anymore but you may want to take a look. Her name is Judy and her website was www.spoiledrottenyorkies.com. I live in the state of NY so I am familiar with the distance between Rochester and NYC. One of the reasons I recommended this breeder is that the husband travels to NYC and will deliver a puppy to the area if necessary. Quality is what is important, not distance. My sister and I flew to GA to get a puppy from Cindy (aka chattiesmom) for my sister because of her reputation as a quality breeder.

To the OP, you might want to try some of the rescues/shelters like others have suggested if you can't afford a puppy from a breeder. I would also suggest that you have someone available to be with your Yorkie when you are at school or work. I am lucky because my Mom watches Lulu when I am at work. I probably wouldn't be able to have Lulu otherwise.

yea, ive thought about that.....and its funny that you say that because i prefer an older yorkie. i realized that i dont have the time that a PUPPY would need.:( & a few people around were suggesting i go to a rescue or a shelter....but i dont know many shelters that have yorkies...theyre mostly bigger dogs...but maybe thats just the ones in NYC :rolleyes: & i have to look up yorkie rescues in NJ....do you guys know of any in NJ??

Hello again try typing in google search 234puppies I believe there in your area. I was going to use them but they were too far. There prices are very low around 500 - 900 and they do not take ayment until you come and get the puppy or the puppy is delivered. If you don't see any new yorkies wait a few weeks they are pretty good about updating when a new litter has arrived.

There are many rescues listed on here. I was looking at Yorkie Haven Rescue and they have a lot of babies looking for furever homes...The price is cheap and you could possibly drive there or fly?? Still may be cheaper than a pup and you would have rescued a baby in need... check under rescues/surrenders then look at rescues themselves that are listed. YHR...

Try e-mailing breeders that are retiring one of there yorkies. I notice that retired yorkies can cost from $500-$1500. Just e-mail every reputable breeder in your area asking if they have a retired yorkie they might like to rehome or will be rehoming soon. Most of them come train :D

I absolutely agree with everything you have said. Did not mean to go against you. I apologize if you misunderstood my statement. Of course, quality is what is important.

yorkie haven wouldve been perfect!...but theyre too far...:( & theres no way i can fly or drive down there last minute...skool starts next week.

I don't know of any in NJ, but you might want to PM TLC (she is in Long Island)--she is starting a Yorkie rescue and she is also always watching for Yorkie rescues.

yea...i told her i didnt want the puppy anymore.

but someone referred me to a reputable breeder in Albany NY i seen her website & she seems perfect. she doesnt have any puppies 7 she wont have any until sept & they wont be able to go until christmas time.....buti have NO problem waiting :D. im really excited! i contacted her...but she hasnt gotten back to me yet :(. hopefully i hear from her soon...

To say she knows "nothing" is pretty harsh given the amount of information on her website and when you talk to her in person. Maybe that one sentence isn't worded correctly but it doesn't make the entire website incorrect.

Baby Doll, Teacup; breeding tinies....sorry, harsh, I still stand by my statement. This person is breeding for $$$$$. Not breeding to standard....putting the lives of small females in jeaporady....she knows nothing.....

I am curious if you have first hand experience with this breeder or if your comments are just your opinion. I personally met with this breeder, talked with them at length during their interview process, got a beautiful, healthy, gentle dog (that is part of our SPCA's Paws for Love program), and spoke with the breeder for several weeks after getting Lulu with any questions I had since Lulu was my first dog. This doesn't seem like someone who is in it for the money to me. I did a lot of research on Yorkies before purchasing one and did encounter people who were in it for the money--to me, this breeder was not one of them. In my opinion, they knew a lot more than "nothing".

To the OP, I am sorry to have hijacked your thread. I am not a breeder and don't pretend to have a breeder's knowledge of Yorkies. I just had a positve experience with this breeder that I thought you might want to check out. I see you have contacted a breeder in Albany and I wish you the best of luck.
