| Breeders Hi everyone. My daughter and I have been looking into buying a yorkie. She fell in love with one adorable little girl at the pet store about a month ago, but I do not believe in supporting pet stores/puppy mills. So I told her I would look for a breeder and I'd get her one from there. We live in Brooklyn, NY. It is impossible to find a good breeder around here that is reasonable. They all want between 1,600-2,500 for one of their puppies, I cannot see myself paying that, I think it is ridiculous. I would be willing to spend $1,000 or under. I am not planning to show this dog, all I need is a pet quality female yorkie. I don't understand this. If their motive is to "better the breed" and it's "not about the money" then why do they want an arm and a leg for a puppy? I understand that they do genetic testing and I understand the money that they put into it but this is what makes people resort to pet stores and backyard breeders. In my opinion, if their true intention is to better the breed they wouldn't be charging as much as they do. My daughter is already telling me she thinks she's just going to go back to the pet store for the dog. It makes me sick. Does anyone know of any good breeders in the tri-state area that sell pet quality yorkies for reasonable prices (around $1,000)? |

| Hi welcome to YT.... I also live in brooklyn and I purchased my furbaby from Puppy Boutique.... wasn;t sure where to go myself cause this was my first puppy... but I hear alot of things about that place now.... they get puppies from puppy mills and have backyard breeders.... so now Im kinda skeptical where I will get my second one from... I've had my lil guy for what will be 4 years already... he will be 4 in february 2010... so far I have had no problems with him....he is very healthy.. I thank God every day for that... cause sometimes it is a bit costly at the vets office... but I love him so much I don't care how much I will spend to keep him alive and well... Thank god I got a healthy boy... I would not go there again after reading about there reviews... I never knew all this info until I joined this site.... try typing this topic in the "general Yorkshire Discussion in the forums section.... someone will help you there... hope this was somewhat helpful.....
