Low fiber diet about four days before the procedure. While fiber is normally important for colon health, it can cause problems during screening. Small pieces of nuts or grains can sometimes get clogged in the scope, they can also cover up the polyps they are looking for during the test.

About one day before the screening, you'll need to stop eating solid food and switch over to clear liquids like broth, apple juice, clear soda, popsicles and plain Jell-O without fruit.

Because most colonoscopies are done in the morning, many people follow a 'split prep. This involves drinking half the colon purge solution in the evening and half the other half in the morning. This gives it time to work and people seem to tolerate it better when it split up (maybe they meant spit up lol)

Hope this helps some, I was never told any of this 10 years ago but maybe they didn't realize the need for these things at that time.

Hope this helps you some.
I did get this much from the doctor: I'll have to go on anti-biotics three days before, a two-day clear liquid diet and take the prep stuff two nights, different stuff each night because of my prior colon problems. It's a rigorous prep! Oh, well, it's down the road, hopefully, as I didn't call the G. I.'s nurse today - will do that tomorrow and worry about it then.

Poor Sheila, I get her wanting to run! Grrr - this just isn't fair but little is, I guess.

They'd like to see me again in 4 years for the one polyp and I am hesitant. I think I may need to go to a different doctor when the time comes.

I am keeping you in my prayers you are doing well, my friend.

You poor thing - at least I don't haven't had problems with the actual procedure or meds before. Your scope experience sounds awful! It's most the prep that does me in. haha. I get very low BP and have to drink lots of Gatorade.

Hi, Jeanie.

Sheila said to tell you, that when she was a child, and she told her Mother,
"It isn't fair", her Mother would reply, "And who ever told you that life is fair?"

But sheesh, with everything you are going through, and facing a colonoscopy, and the problems you have had with them in the past.....it seems like you could at least, get a breather from some of it.

You will always remain in our prayers.

Wanted to tell you-your suggestion to cut the 2.5 mg of oxy in half, worked!

Sheila was able to tolerate it, and it did provide some pain relief.

We both thank you so much. Her DO had told her to cut the 5 mg in half, but 2.5 was still just more than she could handle.

Oh, Rich, I'm so sorry she couldn't handle the 2.5 but so glad the lesser dose worked for her. I just take tiny bits a little at a time and it has worked for me ever since I had to take pain Rx. In time, maybe she can slowly work up to her body tolerating more and get more relief.

Yea, I feel bad about complaining about my silly test with all the awful things Sheila and others here are going through! Time I squared my shoulders and grew up and stop worrying about what's to be. It will be fine and so will I. Sorry I was a wuss but oh, I am such a wuss. lol.

I'll still holding you two up in prayer and think of you so often. Things have just got to get better somehow for Sheila. Hopefully all the prayers will come to fruition and she'll get relief and help. You two take it as easy as you can. You are such sweet folks.

Coming from you, dear Sandy, that is so sweet, knowing what you are going through. I am healed and treatment will put a period to it all. I'm going to do fine. God bless.

Oh, thank you, Dyan, I just shared what I did when I had similar problems. I'm so glad she's able to get a tiny bit of relief and tolerate tiny amounts of the medication.

Woohoo - thank you for catching that! I finally did it! I DID reach 17,000 posts and never even knew it until now! Wow! How funny! It just flew past once it got close and I'd totally forgotten.

Hi, Jeanie.

I think with your suggestion to cut the 2.5 mg in half, Sheila will be able to slowly titrate up, and tolerate the 2.5 and then eventually the full 5 mg.

You, our dear friend, are going through so much more than most people go through in a lifetime, so don't you dare feel bad about posting your feelings about the colonoscopy. Sheila said she empathizes with you-the prep puts her in a world of pain. And she is always sick after from the anesthesia.

You are NOT a wuss, not even close!

Thank you for holding us up in prayer. We continue to keep you in our thoughts & prayers every day. 1st thing Sheila asks every morning, "How is Jeanie today?"

Thank you, Jeanie-you're a sweetheart.

Things have got to get easier for you, too.

Love & Hugs from Sheila & I.

Wonderful words, Rich, and they keep us going when times are scary. This is such good news about Sheila's tolerating tiny amounts of the medicine as she may be able to slowly take more over time as her body adjusts. I'm so happy that at least a tiny bit of relief is available to her.
What you said about Sheila asking about me in the mornings touched me right in the heart and I am blessed to have her there for me in spirit! You two have been the sweetest two people but it often takes those going through awful times to understand others having trouble and be such great support. I thank you both and continue to pray for you both. Hoping and praying for better times ahead for all of us.........

You are always in my heart and thoughts. I always pray for you and Tibbe, and am anxiously awaiting the day when all of this is behind you. You have grown so special to me, Jeanie. I hope all goes smoothly with your appointment with the radiologist and that you remain as courageous and strong as you have been. Be well, dear friend.

Hi, Jeanie.

Prayers are all we really have when life is scary. Guess what? Yesterday, Sheila was able to tolerate 2.5 mg twice. She had some nausea, some dizziness, but she tolerated it.

Jeanie, I told Sheila what you said, and she said, "That just makes me feel so blessed". She said she will always be there for you in spirit.

We think you are one of the sweetest people we have been blessed to "meet" via the 'Net.

Yes, it really does take often take those going through tough times, to truly understand others going through tough times.

She feels so bad that you have to go through so much prep before your colonoscopy. A number of years ago, I took her to Cleveland Clinic on the advice of her former G.I. Doc. Well, they put her through cleanses 3 days in a row, and she refused to leave our girls at home. So, I waited in the car with them. On the 3rd evening, while she waited for the G.I. Doc, the entire staff went home. The G.I Doc was in another exam room, laughing with a patient, and Sheila was in tachycardia, laying across two chairs in the exam room. The nurse knew she was in tachycardia, and left.

When people tell us they want to be referred to Cleveland Clinic, we tell them, it's changed. Even the employee's refer to it in a not so nice manner.

Thank you, my dear Lisa, and you know I am your internet sister! I am humbled by your prayers and am blessed to know you. I am so hopeful that the weeks to come go just half as smoothly and well as the first part of all this went, thanks to all those prayers.

That's wonderful news that Sheila is able to take a larger though tiny portion of the medicine for her bad pain. Even a little bit of help beats none at all, doesn't it! I'm so glad she's got that to help in some small way. Even with the side effects, it's good to get some respite from unremitting pain.

Your sweet feelings are returned - the very same I feel about getting to know you two on YT! Turns out even bad times bring about blessings unbounded and miracles turn up everywhere.

Sheila sounds as if she was very blessed to have survived that episode at the Cleveland Clinic, poor thing. Sounds awful and smacks of patient neglect and some degree of malpractice! She was very fortunate to have you to look out for her and to have you and those babies waiting for her when she was done with that awful test! I'll bet she won't be ever returning back there. Your both are always in my prayers. Take care, both of you.
