First of all, I never ONCE saw or spoke to a case manager or social worker EVER at the hospital. I wasn't aware that there should have been someone helping me until I read your post last night.
The night I was released, Dr. Bowling came in and informed me that an ambulance was on it's way to transport me to a Rehab Center! That's when Jason spoke up immediately and told her he knew I would be even more stressed and wouldn't be able to rest if I couldn't be in my own home. (I missed Yazmin terribly) :D After his joke about "A Yorkie a day..." , she agreed.
The Rehab Center called and again asked if I was a senior citizen? I told her that it had been brought to my attention that my age shouldn't be a factor, and that anyone at any age can have a Stroke! Her reply then was that she really didn't know why I'm not having in home Rehab and didn't know why no one spoke to me at the hospital. She then said that it may be because my records show that I do have a son and a BF listed as emergency contacts, and that they were sure I shouldn't have a problem getting to Rehab! She also said that she had no authority to set the in home Rehab up and in the meantime... maybe someone else will get back to me.
You can call that neurologist doctor and tell her you are NOT receiving any rehab at home! WHO assumed that since you have a son and a BF, it was THEIR responsibility to get you to rehab????? You tell her this was either HER or the attending's responsibility to get you set up with home health care, thru a social worker or a case manager, and it was supposed to happen before you ever left the hospital.......THEY ARE THE ONES THAT MUST ORDER A CONSULT WITH A SOCIAL WORKER AND MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR HOME HEALTH CARE TO PROVIDE YOU REAHB THERAPY IN YOUR HOME FOR __X___ NUMBER OF DAYS A WEEK!!! You tell her your rehabilitation is being delayed unnecessaarily because NOBODY at that facility knows what they are doing!! (and if anyone mentions your son or your boyfriend can get you to rehab, you tell them that is NOT their responsibility....they have jobs and are NOT on staff at that hospital...it is NOT their responsibility to get you rehab!!! You can NOT drive yourself, and you qualify for in home rehab!!!) You can call the hospital and ask to speak with the Director of the hospital. (You probably wont get thru to him, but you will get someone up high.) Then you ask him if they actually are a Joint Commissioned Approved Facility. If he tells you they are, you tell him you KNOW there are standards of practice and standards of care protocols that MUST be adhered to. Tell him what has been neglected in your case with the home health rehab not being set up, "apparently because SOMEONE assumed that since I had a son, it was HIS responsibility to get me to rehab! TELL HIM YOU ARE GOING TO CONTACT JOINT COMMISSION AND FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THEM. (THAT will light a fire under somebody!!) THEY have dropped the ball here...they not only did not set you up for in home rehab, they didnt even set you up for rehab at any facility....YOU cant just stroll into a rehab facility and tell them, "Hi, I need rehab...."! And when you catch your breath from that tirade, you tell him, "Oh, by the way, you are going to contact your insurance company...'you want your hospital bill audited for accuracy' ....you suspect there may have been charges made that did not belong to you". Perhaps that will get some things done for you (I can GUARANTEE you there have been!)....... |
