Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so scared. Mammogram call back. I finally went yesterday for my mammogram. I kept putting it off, stupid me. I didn't realize it had been 3 years since my last one. I just got a call from the radiology dept and they want me to come back in for additional views and an ultrasound. She said the radiologist wants to check an asaymetical area on the left breast that appears denser than on the last mammogram. They can't get me in until 4/9. I am so scared and worried. Any prayers and similar experiences that turned out to be normal are much appreciated.

| Patti, I know those phone calls can be scary , however in most cases it does end up being a fatty tissue, so try not to worry.. I did have cancer it was cervical and not breast and I really believe if he thought it was something VERY serious he would get you right in... Its hard not to worry but you have to try to remain calm and pray for the best.. I had to repeat my mamo.. 2 times.. it was nothing more then fatty tissue build up , Prayers being sent your way

| Oh, Patti. My imaging place does this to me every other year for the past 10 or 12. I have cysts in my breasts apparently from time to time and they always want to be sure they are benign so every other year I get the call back with the wording about the irregular, dense area they want to double check and I go in for a diagnostic mammo and then sonogram. So far, all dense irregularities have been determined to be cysts and I've not had to have a biopsy. Seven or eight years back I got so tired of it I went to a breast surgeon who basically told me to get used to it and be grateful we had such a good screening system at Baylor Hospital and it was what they did - f/u anytime there were changes in the breast tissue and that it happens frequently in older women. She did not specify exactly what "older" was but I guessed whatever that means as to age, unless you're young, they find things worthy of f/u fairly frequently. So, my such last call was in January 2012, as was my last diagnostic mammo and sono - both determined to be negative for evidence of cancer. So just because they found something in your breasts on screening mammo, unless you are a pretty young woman, I think it is usually fairly routine. Maybe if you call back and tell them you are pretty worried, they can get you in sooner. Where I have mine done, they get you in within the week for f/u and then you see two radiologists while you are there and leave with your answer.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks so much. I feel better knowing you have had call backs and everything was ok. I asked if they could get me in sooner and she said they would put me on a cancellation list. She said it wasn't marked urgent so I have to wait for the first available appt. She did say it would take 2 hours and I would have results before I left. After going through all this with Ken I am just so stressed.

| Just wanted to add that I too have had several recalls, several sonograms.....nothing alarming. I think by not having you on the urgent list, you are OK. better safe for them to always check out everything they see. Praying for you hon....

| Gosh Patti...I feel just sick that you are going through this scare and I'm praying that is all it is. I'm upset that they won't get you in sooner. As I told you on the phone, if you can't get in until April 9, they should call closer to that date. Shame on them for making you wait and I hope you can get yourself in sooner. As you said, it's not an emergency to them, but to you it is. I send lots of hugs, my dear friend. Love you!

| I have had a callback as well. They did an ultrasound. It was a "family of cysts". They were joking w me; some ppl grow cysts - I grow whole families of them. When they are multiple and close together it looks like a dense area. Hopefully you're just a "cysty-gal" too. I will keep this in my prayers.

| Patti, I have known many women who received call backs on mammograms and everything turned out fine. I am praying that it will be the same for you.

| Hey Patti sorry that you have a call back. I worked in a medical office for 5 years and I know that call back could be for many reason. I think in your case it maybe because you have not taken a mammo in 3 year they have nothing to compare this one to. if it were alarming then they would just tell you to come in without an appointment. but whatever the case may be my prays are with you..please up date us..hugs

| Try not to worry too much. The new mammography equipment picks up much more now than the old images. So there are a lot more call back.
