Please say a prayer or positive thoughts for my DH

Poor Patti...each time she calls, she is in tears. She said the oncology PA called her and said that they are turning Ken over to Hospice. They cannot treat the strokes because his platelets are too low. They are stopping all meds except for the antibiotic and he is on oxygen. Patti's daughter is there now and I'm thankful for that. There is a hospice facility that is a good one, but it is so far from her home. She doesn't know what to do and kept saying she wanted to take him home. Hopefully she will get some help to make a decision. This is so terribly sad. I did suggest to Patti to ask for the chaplain to stop by his room.

Connie, they have gone to pallitive care with Ken....Patti can talk to them about Hospice coming to her home and helping care for Ken....it is going to be sooooooo difficult for Patti to walk this part of the path with Ken, and she will need all the help and support she can get at her side....she is already emotionally drained and physically exhausted....and watching a loved one struggle to breathe is going to require every ounce of reserve she has....I hope she can find a way to leave him in hospice away from home, where she has 24 hour support and staff to help when help is needed....my friend had friends that wanted to help her, she asked they tend to her 4 Yorkies while she remained at her husbands bedside....the dogs were safe, they were in a familiar place, they were fed and watered...that is all they need at this critical point in this couples life, where the focus is where it needs to be....on Ken.... and Patti, his loved one, his loving caregiver.....

This is an awful disease...I watched my father go through it...I dont know Patti, but I will continue to pray for her and Ken...may the Lord keep them in his loving embrace.

I wish there was a "Like" button on these posts, and I'd be hitting it on each and every post. The social worker at the hospital was getting in touch with different Hospice programs and asking that they send a representative to Ken's room. After she has met with the different ones, she is to make a decision on which one she wants. I haven't heard from her in a couple hours, so I think she is pretty busy right now. Her poor head must be spinning. Wish I was there to help!

It has been a couple hours since I talked to Patti and if she doesn't call soon, I'll call her. She cried during most our conversation...she keeps saying she doesn't know what to do. I told her that's where hospice will help...they will give her info and help her to make a decision. She still wants to take him home. Ken has had damage from these strokes which have gotten worse since yesterday, which makes me wonder if he has had another. He has no eyesight on his right eye...his speech has gotten so she cannot understand what he is trying to say...his right side is pretty much paralyzed. She is having second thoughts about hospice and I told her I think it is time. His poor body has too many serious problems and is worn out. I just feel so sick for both of them. Patti doesn't know how she can live without him. They have been together for, I think she said, 42 years. I hope and pray in the last couple of hours, she is getting info and lots of help and support. I'll let you know. Thanks all for the prayers...means the world to our dear Patti!

I sure hope her daughter stays with her. She need the support now. They both do. I am sure she wants to do what's best for Ken. But not a easy decision. Praying for strength for them both. She has to be exhausted and needs to rest also.

I am so saddened to read this. Please encourage Patti to accept the hospice care and hopefully she can find one to come to their home.
God may be answering prayers by sending hospice for strength and comfort.

Oh, this is so heartbreaking & sad that these two sweet people are having to face this awful disease in this terrible stage of it, but thankfully, they have each other & Patti can be there for poor Ken during these next days and weeks as he fights. Hopefully, her family & friends & pastor can gather round & support her, but if not, hopefully hospice, the social worker & pastoral services from the hospital can provide some. If he were in Dallas, I'd be more than happy to go do what I could to sit with her should she need some support. I imagine Ken is scared of what will happen to him next, bless his heart. He's sure had a terrible few months here lately & I know his strength & endurance must be at their very limits. At this point he's battling one of the worst diseases known to man, and I pray his doctors can find ways to help his breathing & anxiety & pain. When all is said & done, during this perilous time, he is in God's care & I know he will be tended there with love & caring beyond our human comprehension. Hope & miracles haven't vanished from the earth & I pray for both for Ken & that he can battle through this valley. God hold & keep you, Ken.
