| BIL's Bull Terrier needs special thoughts!!! His name is Duke, and he hasn't eaten in three, not almost four days, normally he'd eat a shoe. BIL thinks some kind of stomach ulcer. He took him to a few vets and they wanted to run lots of expensive tests, but not one of them suggested bloodwork! The last vet, the one I take Uni to, which they are great, wanted to do all these tests that would have been over $1000! I can't believe they didn't suggest bloodwork first! BIL said he can't afford that and he would put him down, so finally the Dr prescribed flagyl and amoxicilin, and another rx I think is for ulcers. He said he wouldn't take any of the pills, but will drink water. I told him the crush and syringe trick which is working, and I also told him about pumpkin, though he doesn't seem to want to try it. I hope he can pull through, he is only 6 years old. PS, he is not treated like our yorkies, out in the backyard all day, bored, and bull terriers need to be stimulated. Hardly gets walked. I suggested rescue at least, not to put him down. H'es never been spoiled in his life. At least if he gets in a rescue he will be.

| Oh, poor baby! I will say a prayer for him. I wonder if he tried using a syringe full of canned food (can't think of the canned food sold at vets especially used for very sick animals that is loaded with calories). I had to syringe feed my very sick cat when she wouldn't eat. Of course, if it's an ulcer, it may not be good for him. Would bloodwork be too expensive for your BIL to have done for him? I hope he will consider a rescue before the other alternative. It could be something very curable and what a shame that would be. Good luck.

| Can't they at least take an x-ray to rule out an obstruction ? |

| That's what I thought too, obstruction, but he can't afford to pay the xray. He is looking at rescues today.

| He ate a bit of boiled chicken, and half a hot dog (yuck I know, but at least it's something). He is drinking a bit of water but not much. Has diarhea now, but not much bc he hasn't eaten hardly a thing since Sunday. BIL is still trying to crush and squirt method for the meds. He can't get him in rescue, they are all full. One of the rescues he contacted even had a huge notice on their site saying they don't have enough funds and 15 dogs are in danger of being put down. I told him to contact Katie's dr who did her surgery, he has very reasonable rates, and I think may work out a payment plan or something. I'll post again if I find anything out.

| Duke has passed away. It was kidney failure. I read up online a bit on it, and apparently bull terriers are prone to it. It is something that can come up as early as 2 yrs old, sometimes even as just a pup of 6 months. Medication can prolong their life a bit, but there is no cure for it. It is not simply treating a disease, it is the actual kidneys malfunction and break down and fail. Bullies are also very strong, so they don't show pain until it's very bad. Rescue would not have been able to save this big guy. He was already too far gone once BIL even noticed anything was wrong. I was very surprised to read that the life expectancy of bullies are only about 6-8 yrs long. Duke was 6. RIP Duke.
