| Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I know this is hard, I had a Bichon for 13 days once. I knew there was something wrong after I got him home and took him to the vet several times in those 13 days. It turned out he had a liver shunt and I had to return him to the breeder who put him down. My heart goes out to you and your little one.

| How heartbreaking. ![]() Why isn't Davey on Denosyl? He should not be on K/D. The pork is just going to make things worse. Can you put him on L/D canned?

| My Thoughts and Prayers are with you and little Davey as you both go through this journey together!! I know it's hard, But know that we all will eventually go down the same road with our beloved furbabies... You've taken wonderful care of him. Enjoy the time you have together and may those memories comfort you in the days ahead!! Blessings to all, Baron's Mom

| Poor Davey...I'm so sorry that he is so sick. What kind of protocol do you have him on for the liver other than the k/d? In order for you to be able to see a difference in him, he should absolutely be on: lactulose 3x/day (dosage will depend on your baby having 2 soft stools per day), canned L/D instead of K/D (even though K/D is lower in protein, it's not the appropriate kind of protein..It contains pork liver which is not only an animal protein, it's also an organ meat which is highly encephalogenic...It produces a LOT of ammonia that a compromised liver cannot filter), and supplements like Denosyl and Milk thistle which help not only protect the liver, but also helps regenerate the liver. Also, small, frequent meals should be given rather than free feeding or feeding 2 regular meals. 4-6 little meals per day are preferred because it helps lighten the load on the liver and helps the dog tolerate more protein *overall*... These recommendations have helped dogs in even the most severe conditions. Depending on the severity of your dog's condition, you might need to add other things to those basic recommendations I mentioned above. I am just sharing what has worked for my dog and other dogs that I have helped. Prayers for Davey!!

| My heart ache for you. It's difficult to lose one that we love. HOld him, love him and let him know that you are always there for him - even at the end as hard as it is. I'm saying prayers now and sending healthy thoughts your way.
