I am sad to hear about your little one and so sorry that you are both having to go thru this. You WILL know when the time comes and you have to do what you have to do. He will let you know when it is time and I pray that you have the strength to do what you need to do at that time. But we will also be believing for a miracle for him as well!

have you consulted with dr. tobia at university of tenessee as she is the best person for liver shunt. also have you joined the Liver_Shunt_And_MVD_Support@yahoogroups.com as they are real supportive and can help you alot -- I am so sorry you are going through this but i would not do anything without first consulting with Dr Tobias and another expert is Dr Center from Cornell University -- These two are very knowlegeable about what you are dealing with

Davey was bought as a present for my daughter for her birthday he got him on May16 her birthday was the 14th. She was in heaven, we took him to a few school functions she put him in her purse, he had been sick on and off.
He has had coccidia, conjunctivitis, severe vomitting and diarrhea, and now the high blood sugars,ammonia, and BAT levels.
RayRay wants to do a dance athon and raise money for a surgery for Portal shunt . She wrote an article and it is goign to be published in power kids news and events. Myvet said that if and when we kick off a fundraiser then his office would be neutral and all donations could be sent there. If we don't get the money in time then we would donate the money collected to a rescue organization or maybe purdue for someone else who couldn't afford the surgery but didnt' have so many problems making them good candidates for surgery. She is even organizing toys to sell. She doesn't have alot left that don't mean alot to her, because every year she goes through her room and donates toys to the thrift store that is operated by our church.

I had sent an email , and I had went on there website back when Davey was 12 weeks old and investigated this condition. The high blood sugar complicates the condition. If he has diabetes from the nonfunctioning liver then maybe he doesn't need insulin and his organs are getting the proper nutrients. If he had developed the diabetic condition as a co-morbid illness congenitally then he runs the risk of impaired healing, infection etc , so then surgery is somewhat contraindicated. The quality of life post surgery would have to be considered .I just can't see making him suffer to make him suffer.

Maybe contact a Yorkie Rescue, maybe they have some advice, maybe they could take him in a find him a home where he is the only pup, and this way he can be treated with the right food and medicines

I have some friends who have friends, that take in rescue animals for awhile and they will work with enitities who try to retrain some of these dogs and find permanent homes for them. I got to talk to this gal who doesn't have any rescue animals right now and her parents are looking for a Yorkie to rescue, they jsut lost one to old age. If Davey continues to get sick like with this cough. I am need to consider this as an avenue. So I don't risk the chance of getting my other dogs sick with a cough or cold. I have 2 little girls that have had a cough for about a month and Davey played with these girls alot and had never started a cough until today. I can't see taking a chance of them passing this back and forth. I am going to talk to the vet tomorrow. If an antibiotic can be added to hi list of meds then maybe get him started on one tomorrow, along with the neomycin.

I know what you are going through and it is so hard and heartbreaking. When Mitzi's kidney faillure was getting worse and wors we also had to make the decision if we do everything to prolong her life or let her go. We let her go...

Part of our decision was the fact that we didn't want to be selfish and try to keep her around as long as possible just to avoid the grief we would experience once she was gone...

We all pray for you to find it in your heart to make the right decision at the right time...
