| Calling Austinite Pup Parents! Hi all, I'm curious to know just how many of us yorkie owners in Austin are out there. I have a couple ideas for info.-sharing that would benefit us all. Local Service Providers / Yorkie-Fiendly Locales It would be great to get a list of recommended local pet service providers such as a veterinary clinics, grooming, boarding and behavioral specialists together. I am sometimes even just looking for a nice place to take Chloe out, and I'm not that familiar with dog-friendly places here in Austin. She loves to "go for a ride" and loves her bag. I feel bad when I don't have anywhere else to take her other than PetsMart. Just wanted to get a feel for how many of us there are in Austin and the surrounding areas: Round Rock, Cedar Park, Lakeway, Dripping Springs, etc. I'd love to here from you locals and get some lists going. Best, Mel |

| My bf and I live in Austin (Westlake), and we've had our little girl, Ella, for a week. I think the idea is great--we really want Ella to get out and meet other dogs, and meeting other dogs her size would be even better. We've only been to our vet once, but we love her so far. She works at Griffith Small Animal Hospital off of 2222 and MoPac. No trips to the groomer or parks yet, but I'll post any good ones we come across!

| South Austin Here Still finding my way around dog-friendly places. Since none of my friends have small dogs, I'm venturing out on my own to find places that are Seleena-approved. |

| What I have found.... Ok, when I got Scooter about a year ago, I went on a mission. Here are some ideas: Our vet: Anyone at Brykerwood Vet Clinic, we have been to several of the doctors and everyone is great. Call before you go so that you have an appointment but they do allow walk-ins if you forget. Daycare/Boarding: Hands down has to be Barking Hound Village. Scooter loves them. Dog parks: There are several official parks around town....City of Austin - Parks and Recreation Department: Dog Parks. There are also numerous unofficial parks. We go to the TxDOT land at Bull Creek and 41st Street. I do not let Scooter off the leash but after work around dusk it is dog heaven. There are several different walking paths and the dogs love to sniff each other. Groomer: Jessica at the PetCo at Hancock Center is great. I will only take Scooter in if she is there. She will do it while I wait so that he desn't spend hours in the cage while they do other dogs. There is a big HEB next door so I typically drop him off, go get groceries, and then go back and get him. I always set an appointment up instead of just dropping in. She does the cutest summer cut on Scooter for the hot months but knows when it is time to let it grow for winter. Other things that may help: http://www.romanreign.com/austin_dog_friendly.htm http://www.kxan.com/Global/category.asp?C=110398 If I think of anything else, I will post it but that is a start.

| Grooming and other things I forgot to mention that I take Seleena to PetSmart for her grooming. If she's just getting a bath, I take her to the one by my house (Slaughter and I-35). If she's getting a full groom, I take her to the PetSmart that's in the Mueller Development (off of I-35 and Airport). She's goes to Carmen. I took her to the PetSmart by my house for a full groom, and I just wasn't too satisfied. The PetSmart with Carmen is close to my work, and she seems to have fun there. Since I can bring Seleena to work, I'll make an appointment during a weekday and take her there. Usually it takes two-ish hours to complete (for her summer cut), and the last time I went to pick her up, Carmen had her out in the grooming area, playing with her and holding her. Seeing that made me feel better, since I hate the thought of Seleena being stuck in a cage until I pick her up. I don't know if we can talk about other groups on here, so my apologies if we can't (I'm still new), but there's a Meetup group in Austin for yorkie owners. I just joined it, and there's a meetup scheduled in September. PM me if you'd like more information. |

| HI there fellow Austinites! I've lived in Austin for about 25 years, we live in north Austin. For grooming, I use Shelly at Diamonds in the Ruff on Parmer between Metric and MoPac. She's groomed my dogs for about 10 years now. I drive all the way out to Taylor to use a vet that I love. We've never used doggy day care so I can't comment. We don't go out to parks very often - I'm so worried about a big dog running up to Rex and Rowdy, so we generally avoid the parks. Thinking about it, we don't take them with us very many places in Austin, but when we travel in the summer in our travel trailer, they go everyplace with us! Glad to meet some fellow Austinites!!!

| new to Austin I'd love to be able to share information -- after I get some! Thanks for the tips, those of you who have shared, that's exactly what I needed. It would be nice to have a place to take my boy, too. He goes everywhere I go, but not many trips are designed just for him. I stay away from the places where big dogs run, as well! |

| We've lived in Austin just over a year (Cedar Park, actually) We just went to the paws in the park a few weeks ago and had the best time and met some really nice vets and distributors in the area. I don't have a lot of time now but I will think about it and post some of my favorite places in town! There is an austin yorkshire terrier group on meetups.com (I think that's what the site is called). We need to get them interested in YT!
