| ![]() We just found out through a heartbreaking experience that our stud yorkie is the carried of a mild genetic defect. He is scheduled to be nutered to insure he does not pass this defect on any farther, the puppies will be as well when the time comes. The breeders told us our puppy's line was clean and clear of in-breeding, we learned the hard way. Check the pedigrees!!! With all this said, we are now looking for a male puppy to add to our family. We are not breeders! Our children greatly enjoyed the breeding experience and we would like to allow our female to have another litter or two before we have her spade. If you know of any one in the area (Alabama) who will have a litter ready in the next 3 months I would appreciate being put in touch with them. |

| ![]() Yes..I am interested in the mild genetic defect also. You are going to be hard pressed to find a line without mild defects..Welcome PS..why not buy stud service if you are not interested in a long breeding committment..that way you can use a well proven stud who is known to produce quality pups..just a thought. | ![]() All of the puppies have a left eye smaller than the right eye, and the runt of the litter (that did not survive) had no left eye at all. The vet as told us that the puppies vision should not be affected. |

| ![]() I see..well, that is not a mild genetic problem by any means. A bad bite or retain testicle is minor. You were right to neuter the stud..best wishes |

| ![]() He is AKC registered. His name is "Prince Holly's Tater-Tot" #TP28760302. We ordered his pedigree to investigate the possible source of this problem and found in-breeding on the sire's side. Tater's sire was Prince Duke #TP18009503 (07-02). I hope this is helpful and I hope no one finds this name in any of their pedigrees! |

How did you trace this back to the male? Have there been other puppies from his bloodlines that have had this defect.? I am asking questions and trying to learn. I do not mean to sound rude. I think you mentioned in a earlier post about inbreeding and wondered about how close and the bloodlines.

| ![]() I am always amazed when I see that defects always come from the males as if the females were congenital defects free . IMO.... A medal have 2 sides . |

How much inbreeding did you find on the sires side? and how close. I do not want too order your males pedigree to be able too look at it. I take it that you do not know what is on the mom's pedigree.

| ![]() Males take the brunt of the responsiblity for problems most of the time since they can sire so many pups. Much is recessive and it takes two to make the recessive gene "tango" so to speak...and for that reason, the bitch must be studied closely also. I would not use a female from this line, as she could also do the same and pass the gene to potential breeding adults. None of the dogs you mentioned have any meaning to me...you will need to go farther back in the pedigree to hit on a known kennel name..but once you do that, you can not lay blame on that kennel name if this males breeder has taken their lines and bred unwisely..see my point? |

| ![]() I'm writting this from work so I'm not sure about how many generations back it was. I think it was Taters "grandfather" that was breed with his own "daughter". I do remember from looking at the pedigrees last night that the in-breeding was that close. We also own the female and have her pedigree now... it was clear. We have since talked to the breeders that we got Peaches from and they assured us of no known genetic health defects in their dogs lines (they own both the male and female also). |
