How do I get an "avatar"?

So I found out that the pictures under user names when you post something are called avatars. What I did not find out is how to get one!! Can anyone help?

Hi and welcome to YT!

First you have to have a pic to upload!! You have to resize it (one of our wonderful members posted a few sites you can use to resize your pics...just type picture resizing in the search and it should come up). Then click on user cp. On the left you will see edit avatar. Click on that and upload your picture and....VIOLA! you now have an avatar!!

That's funny...you make it sound so easy...It took me hours to do it, and when I finally got it, I had no clue what I did. But that's because I'm a computer idiot!!! Someday I'll try to post an actual picture in a tread...LOL
