Unfortunately most people don't understand that with rights come responsibilities. What I am reading from your post is "guesses" that are unfounded unless Admin(s) and/or Moderator(s) take you into thier confidence. I have way to much respect for both to think that they would undermine YT in that manner.

Back to the OP's question/concern. I have seen all too often members using the tag function to identify the thread, the op, certain individuals posting in the thread, etc. in a manner that is rude and insulting. Not only is that childish, it is an underhanded way to attack another member.

hahhaha...ok...I will take the last word since you think that is what I want.. What I really believe is that you, while saying you prefer to purr are roaring right now. But..hey that is your right.

I made a point that many people here do nothing but complain.....and it is just a very obvious observation based on their many public complaints and holier than thou attitudes.

Yes, admin and Wylie's mom are fair and professional...enough that the people here largely take advantage of that fairness imho. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what goes on behind the scenes. We see enough on stage here.

Wow. I've been on this forum for four years and had no idea that there was even a tag feature! This is the first I've heard about it. Why is it that people are complaining about the poster of that thread putting in "Chicago" "girl" and the other one that was there. I didn't see anything offensive or abusive? They might not serve a purpose to anyone on YT, but they aren't hurting anyone. If there was something offensive posted there, I could understand, but it seems pretty innocent.

I did not get it either, but my guess is there must have been something else and admin maybe removed it. Again, I really don't think if it were directed towards me that I would lose much sleep over it. The tags the button pushers are using are really just that: button pushers....and mean nothing. They don't even know how they work..nor do the people who complain about them. Heck, I am not sure I even understand how they work.

There are some people on here who love to do tags that are ignorant and as the op said, useless.....
Then there are people who don't even understand what tags are and/or do.

It is all something that perhaps the admin can come along and explain.

Oh trust me, I won't be losing sleep over this. I've got issues in my life bigger than this lol. I really just didn't even know there were tags on YT after four years and three thousand something posts later. I know how to use them, I just don't see the point and I'm never creative enough to think of words to describe my posts anyways.

Not losing sleep here either. Nothing on the internet is worthy of that.

I don't really get the point to it all either. I never noticed the tags until this past year when someone started complaining about how people were abusing them....and I have seen some very snide tags. It is just that they really don't mean much....and, as I said before, are so terribly immature.

I have a general idea of what tags are on a website and all; but not sure exactly how they work on a bulletin board. Are they for the forum only? Or are they for the internet searches?

The internet.

Websites were tagged with keywords....so when someone typed in that keyword it would bring up their website.

You can use tags both ways, for example. I put the words "Yorkietalk, Chicago, Girl and wanted," in Google, and I came up with the original thread as well as this one. It's also handy to use as search feature here on YT, and tags can be useful to recall various threads when you don't remember the details.

Yes, but you don't need tags for the forum search unless the word you are searching for is not in that thread.

Bchgirl says they are for the internet...but, I still don't understand why some of them upset so many people. Just because something comes up in a search does not make it what you are looking for. When I do an online search and forums pop up, I honestly breeze past the forums because I am usually not looking for people's opinions...only fact as best as it can be.

as those tags are related to the poster's thread.

Tags are used as another way for members to search threads or to search YorkieTalk. They can be useful for certain things, such as illness names or a particular Yorkie pedigree. Google may also put more weight into tags when they index our community. They are not required, but can be useful. It is a tool for the community to use as they see fit. Members can also search by tags as well, either by clicking on Search, then Search Tags, or this link:

We can see which member makes which tags. If they are inappropriate or namecalling or belittling, action will be taken by a moderator or admin. We have suspended members in the past for using tags inappropriately.

hey guys, I wasn't saying that anything was abusive about those tags on that particular thread. The whole point I was trying to get out is that it seems many people on here don't seem to realize how to use them and I think there should be something somewhere to help people understand when and why to use them.. Those on that thread are totally useless to anyone looking for a yorkie. Sorry if some of you took offense. There are several in the for sale forum like those. useless. So if someone just googles one of those words looking for a " girl', chicago, or wanted. No matter what they are looking ,for a yorkie website comes up when they might just be wanting info about chicago. LOL Thanks admin.

Well to be fair, while they may be mostly useless in a lot of situations and come up on a lot of searches that don't pertain to the topic. Someone looking for a pup in Chicago might run across that thread via search because of the tags and then possibly stumble upon a breeder or resource they may want to contact to start their hunt. It isn't a bad starting point if you don't have one at all.
