Admin question Is it possible to put a sticky somewhere to educate people on Yt how tags are to be used? I see a lot of ignorant or abusive tags that have no value to anyone at all. Especially in the Yorkies for sale forum. Here at the bottom of this thread is a "for instance". http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...le-yorkie.html These tags serve no purpose whatsoever. There are several in the for sale forum like this. They are worthless to anyone looking for a yorkie. I sure wish you could put a sticky somewhere and also the repercussions for abusing the tag system. Thanks. |
Well in that thread they dont seem to be necessary but I dont see the harm in the tags that were used. Ive seen people severly maligned with tags and I do think when someone abuses them there should be consequences but there isnt enough of admin and mods to go arround. There is now way they can keep up on all threads and tags of threads. A lot falls on the members to just be respectful |

Sorry to sound so dumb, but what the heck is a tag? |
I think that people need to realize what tags are. They are simply terms that can be used to search for something! I fail to see how that could malign a person. There are people on this forum that do that and I think it is quite immature; but honestly they are not causing any problems for anyone because unless someone searches for the term they are using, no one will ever see them. And, all it is going to do is make a thread pop up on a search...so what? Unless I am incorrect, here is what I believe they are: Any word or topic in a thread can be searched, but if there is a word or topic not in that thread that would make the thread pop up during a search, then that is what the tag is used for. Yes, you could put any term in there, but that only would make the thread come up in a search...it does not label someone. |
Well Ive seen people put in a tag with name calling that would have resulted in a suspension if it were said in a post and thats what I meant by maligned |

But, the OP seems to think it is a problem and a label and really it is not...at least not if tags do what I believe they do. she is correct about them being useless. No one is going to search for some of the terms I have seen....just silly stuff. |
Gotcha! I didnt see anything remotely wrong with the thread she put up and dont see anything wrong with most. I do think people get the impression its labeling |

If each one of us would take a moment to report those things we feel are problematic, rude, or in violation of rules, then more threads would be closed, more hands would be slapped and perhaps YT would be a bit more pleasant to those of us who prefer purring to cat fights. |
An example of what I mean..... Say there is a thread where someone does not like someone and they put jacka$$ in the tags. I guess it makes them feel good that they can "get away" with calling someone a jacka$$, but other than that, what does it mean? Who is going to do a search for jacka$$ ? No one! So...totally useless. I think that even explaining it to some would not stop the childishness...and probably better to ignore the tags just the way we ignore certain people. |

I feel sorry for admin and Wylie's Mom some days as I know they are inundated with complaints from people who don't understand the ignore feature. I do think that totally outrageous violations of YT policies should be reported; but I also will bet that people report lots of things that are just not making them happy and have nothing to do with rules.. I don't think there is a lack of reporting happening. |

Tags may be a moot point...since the largest search engine...google no longer uses them. |
