For those who want to know how to get to the "New Posts" feature, click on the "YorkieTalk" banner at the top of the window. It'll take you to what I think is the YT homepage. On the left under the banner, there will be a User CP box where your avatar shows up. Under the avatar it says "You last visited:" and it has 2 links under that. "New Posts" and "Log out."

I really like the New Posts feature because you can see how much activity there is on YT. Right now, mine shows there are 319 new posts since the last time I checked. I also check the unanswered threads. There might be someone needing immediate help and no one has seen it yet because it isn't bumped it. I go there and bump it for them.

I really, I didn't even know this. Mary just told me about clicking on the Yorkietalk banner a couple of days ago, and I didn't know this. Okay, I hate to explain my version. See at the top of the page below the banner in the blue strip where it says things like "User CP" "Blogs" "Faq" "Community" it also says "New Posts", I click on that. I usually have to post a picture because nobody knows what I mean.

That is the way I do it. Took me forever trying to figure it out. God only knows how I was finding "new posts" before then and I would hate to know there is a longer way of doing it. I like the idea of checking on the unanswered posts too.

What's the advice on when/how/frequency on contributing to threads? I love reading YorkieTalk, but always question whether my "newbie" input is of interest to anyone. Don't want to be annoying...or....? But then, I also don't want to be a "lurker". What's the scoop in your opinion?

I don't know who I read that hint from, I thought it was you. I use to always just go to general and look for the posts in bold, and that means you haven't read the last post.

I think it's entirely up to the person. Posting more often helps others get to know you faster, and it's the quickest way to make friends here. Don't ever worry about annoying anyone - everyone starts out as a newbie. For me, posting and participating makes my time on YT more enjoyable. And I can't believe all of the things I've learned during my time here.

That's an interesting question. Looking at your signature I have a feeling that your posts can certainly be of interest to anyone as you obviously have experience with dogs! "Newbie" status is only relevant to when you joined the forum, not what you know. And trust me, if you are annoying I have a feeling you'll be told I think you should always add input whenever you want.

I'm a relative noob myself - just joined a few months ago. And I can't seem to stop myself from blabbing here.

I have never been discouraged from sharing my opinions and experiences (ok, there was the one time I jumped on a troll but I kinda deserved that one). I would not offer advice on a topic I don't know anything about - such as breeding. Otherwise I think everyone has different experiences in life and therefore different points of view to contribute.

We were all newbies at one time. Some newbies have owned Yorkies for years and have lots of information to share with others. Most newbies have just gotten their first yorkie, and need lots of tips. I was a lurker for a long time, I just didn't feel like I had anything to contribute, until someone was writing about hitting their dog, and I had to speak up. Joey wanted to be held the first six months, so I did more reading than posting, but once he liked the bed next to me, I started typing away, and haven't shut-up yet.
