| Kiwi was spayed yesterday AND had her liver biopsied! So Kiwi went in yesterday for her spay and liver biopsy and I went to pick her up last night and I felt like a horrible mom! She was sooo lethargic and sleepy and she had a big incision with staples . The good news is that her liver looked completely normal, but they did the biopsy just to be sure. So I hope to hear soon about that. I took her back to the vet this morning to get more fluids and a recheck. She was walking around some this morning, so that's good. She is also has the patch that gives a small, continuous dose of pain meds, so she doesn't seem to be in pain. It is so hard to see her when she is not herself!

| Hi Kiwiglaze, glad to hear that she's feeling better, but I feel compelled to tell you that you need to be extremely careful with that patch. If it's the one I think you're talking about, it's the fenanyl patch, and it is an extremely strong narcotic...Make sure that no heat is near the patch b/c heat will cause the patch to release large amounts of the narcotic at once.

| The fentanyl is also processed through the liver. http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/label/2005/19813s039lbl.pdf That link is to the product insert for the fentanyl patch...It basically states that it should not be used in: -patients who are not opioid tolerant -in the management of acute pain or patients who require opioid analgesia for a short period of time -in the management of post-operative pain -in the management of mild pain -in the management of intermittent pain This information is straight from the fentanyl patch product insert. I am praying for your baby to have a quick and smooth recovery!!

| Hmmmm....now I am getting kinda worried about the patch thing. Here is the link to the information handout I was given: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Con...?P=PRINT&A=534 It says that it is used by vets to control post operative pain. I know the FDA does not recommend its use for humans post-operatively because it says there are other drugs out there that are better. Maybe it is different with animals?

| Phew, there is always something to worry about isn't there? If it's not the pain or illness then it's the meds!! It is just so good that there are so many Mommy "doctors" on here with lots of advice and information I hope all goes well with Kiwi. Thinking of you.
