My Dolce was the same way. When we got her at 4 months she refused to eat anything. Going through all types of dog food, homecooking, etc. It turns out she did have a liver shunt which we had the surgery for, she was diagnosed at 9 months. We had the surgery but it's still a battle with the food. Ask the vet to prescribe an appetite stimulant, cyproheptadine. That was a true life saver in the battle. Good luck and keep us updated.

UPDATE Well she is home for the night, she ate a little of the formula that was given to me earlier, and then I had to force the rest down her. She is sleeping and I will be waking her up in 30 min to force the food down her again. They were able to draw blood and will have results tomorrow. Thanks again to everyone that gave suggestions, and thanks to all the well wishers

UPDATE Hi everyone. We went back to the vet this morning and it turns out she has a bacteria infection. All of her liver functions are normal. She is now on antibiotics. Before we left for the vet she was chewing on the towel that had the recipe from above on it, so I warmed her up a little and she ate on her own again, not a whole lot but she did eat!!!!! I will keep everyone posted.

When she gets bigger, I would still have the bile acid test done. A blood test is not a definitive test for liver shunt. Lily's blood test came out perfect and showed no signs of a liver problem but the bile acid test showed that something was wrong. I took her to UT where they diagnosed MVD. The bile acid test is fairly cheap and well worth it, I think I paid around $45.

UPDATE Hi everyone, things have totaly turned around. Abby is eating on her own, looking for food when I dont have it ready for her. She is running around and playing like I have never seen before. Thank you so much for the recipe you gave me, that was the MAIN thing that turned around. I oked it with the vet before I gave it to her and she told me it was worth a try. I hope this advise gets to everyone out there that is going through or will go through what I have been through. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

| I used a pill grinder and used the brand Chicken Soup for a Puppy Lovers Soul. It is very small and flat and easy to grind. I also found that once I got her to eat, that she liked scrambled eggs too.
