| i dont know what happend knew to it all and not reallt with it sorry but this was my post the blood results came back clear and they said that means it can only be a growth on his brian. they cannot tell if it is tumorus (sp) or benine they also cant say how long he has as some dogs last years and other deteriate within months. they also put him back on the tablets. i now have a really hard decision to make as i have two boys the oldest being two and if he does keep fitting i might have to ask my dad to look after him as it is not fair for my little boy to watch it, id also like him to remember a healthy skamp but i feel as if i will be abandoning him in his hour of need. thankyou all for you support xx |

| I know how sad you must be right now. I would give the meds the vet put him back on and see what happens. As I remember he wasn't on very long and I usually find some take about two weeks to really take effect. Not sure about this med though. I'll keep Skamp, you and your family in my prayers.

| I'm sorry to hear about this. Could the vet put Skamp on a stronger anti seizure medicine like an epilepsy patients takes? Does he have any other medical problems? I know he's older but could they operate? Last edited by dcapper; 09-20-2007 at 02:33 PM. |

| the tablets that they put him on are Phenobarb wich i think is for epilepsy and he has to have half a 30Mg tablet twice a day. they cannot operate as they dont think he would come though the anesthetic. he has never had any medical problems before to be honest when i took him to the vets a few weeks ago it was the first tim i had ever had to take him. he is now starting to howl after the fits and they are lasting longer. |

| You have to go with your heart. If you read a post I had in June. Toby is almost 16. He blew up like a balloon and nearly died. My mom takes care of Toby when I'm at work and she suggested it was time to put him down. I took him to the vet and the vet did tests and gave him some drugs. I wanted to see how he would come out of it. It took a week or so. And everyday I was reminded by my mom that Toby is unhappy and is not going to recover. He did. I understand Skamp has a different problem but maybe it takes time for the pills to work? Whaat does your vet suggest. If you are at a spot where you think its time. Then opt for the surgery. At least you can say you tried everything for your guy. I'm praying for you and Skamp. |

| This is a tough one to have for a first medical problem to handle. I would call the vet and tell him that he is starting to howl and maybe he needs something for pain too. If things get too bad alot of us have had to make that decision for our older dogs when they can't do it for themselves and we will understand. I would make sure he is out of pain though. Just wish you could see if the meds work but you are there with him and know best.

| Kerry, mt thought ans prayers are with you and Skamp right now. I do hope the meds can do the job. Just remember it may take a little while. thier effect will not be immediate. Love and hugs, Kim

| please get them to check his heart again. my sasha started having fits aged about 2 and i was told it was her brain. when she was 12 and a half her fits got really bad and i took her to the vet and they said her heart was fine, they then did a xray and found that her heart was very enlarged and she had heart failure. im sure she was born with a heart problem and that was the cause of her fits not a problem with her brain. she had pills for the heart failure but it didnt work for her and she had 2 heart attacks, she howled with the heart attacks and if i hadnt seen her have a normal fit before i would of prob thought she was just fitting and not having a heart attack. they can do a xray without putting your dog out, they can just weight him down. i had to have sasha pts as the meds never worked for her but tye my 14 year old yorkie who is also sashas son now has heart failure and the meds are working well and have been for about 3 years. good luck |
