| Ibuprofen Emergency At about 6:30 this Sunday evening my 8months old yorkie Baxter was hanging around the kitchen. I was about to take some Ibuprofen for a headache and one 200mg coated tablet fell on the floor. Needless to say he got it in his mouth before i could catch him. He chewed and swallowed about 1/4 to half of it, i got the rest out of his mouth. There are no places near us open sunday or overnight, so we found one in the phonebook. They told us to use H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) and some salt to induce vommiting. Baxter regergitated his dinner which he ate about half hour prior to incident in about 4 pukes. We were told not to give him food or water for 3hrs after the fact. Come 10pm we gave him a bit of water, and he peed. His urine was dark and had dark red spots in it. He just peed again at 12:30am at about twice the volume as before (still not a whole lot) and it was the same color and consistency. We have no place to take him right now, so we are going to vet first thing in the AM. Has anyone had experience with Ibuprofen emergencies before? Is this a recoverable problem? If I were to guess I would say he ingested about 80-100mg of Ibuprofen. |

| Oh no. I've always worried about that. Those pills get away from you so easily. Here is the free poison hotline at Kansas State University if you want to just get another opinion on if you think everything is okay before you get to the vet tomorrow..... 1+785-532-5679 Please let us know how he is tomorrow! Dropping an Ibuprofin is bound to happen to many of us.

| I found this. In an emergency situation, time is of the essence. But can you recognize the most common canine health crises? Here are some common emergency scenarios. Circle those you think are most dangerous, then check your answers. Choose all answers you think are correct; more than one may apply. 1. Your dog ate the pill you dropped. Which drugs could cause problems if ingested? a. Birth-control pills b. Tranquilizers c. Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) d. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Correct answer: None or all. A single dose of any of these drugs is unlikely to cause problems for most dogs, but multiple doses may be harmful. Seek veterinary care if your dog consumes multiple doses. |

| How is Baxter today? Ibuprofen affects the kidneys in dogs. Even if he threw it up, if there are any signs of kidney/bladder problems I would call a vet and ask about it immediately.

| the day after Baxter saw the vet this morning and he said everything seemed ok. He gave him an antibiotic to prevent any gastric ulcers caused by the ibuprofen and vomiting. Other than that he has been lying around and sleeping all morning. Hopefully he is his usual self soon. There is nothing more heartbreaking than when your yorkie looks at you with those sad, tired eyes and all you can do is be there for him. Thank again to everyone who posted something. All of those emergency poison control numbers are great. We wrote them down and are now on our fridge. I don't know about where you are from, but on weekends and at night we only have an emergency vet about an hour away, so it's always a difficult choice if we should go. |

| Little 3.5 pound Winstin Got ahold of an excedrin over weekend. We called ASPCA and they said it only takes 1/4 of pill to do harm. Bigger dogs it takes multiple pills. It all goes on weight.A cat it can kill with one pill.

| Glad Baxter is doing well. It amazes me how quickly they pick up things they shouldn't.
