Ibuprofen Emergency At about 6:30 this Sunday evening my 8months old yorkie Baxter was hanging around the kitchen. I was about to take some Ibuprofen for a headache and one 200mg coated tablet fell on the floor. Needless to say he got it in his mouth before i could catch him. He chewed and swallowed about 1/4 to half of it, i got the rest out of his mouth.
There are no places near us open sunday or overnight, so we found one in the phonebook. They told us to use H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) and some salt to induce vommiting. Baxter regergitated his dinner which he ate about half hour prior to incident in about 4 pukes. We were told not to give him food or water for 3hrs after the fact.
Come 10pm we gave him a bit of water, and he peed. His urine was dark and had dark red spots in it. He just peed again at 12:30am at about twice the volume as before (still not a whole lot) and it was the same color and consistency.
We have no place to take him right now, so we are going to vet first thing in the AM.
Has anyone had experience with Ibuprofen emergencies before? Is this a recoverable problem? If I were to guess I would say he ingested about 80-100mg of Ibuprofen. |
