| bee sting Good evening everyone, It's been a while since I posted but I need a quick answer. My little Mo got stung by a bee tonight. It is a type of yellow jacket. We are having a major bee problem right now and they are in the house. I am not sure how many times he got stung. I ran cold water on his paw for a while. He was crying and it just was heart breaking I right away came to the forum and was trying to find answers but right now I just need a quick response. Can anybody tell me how long I might have to worry about respiratory trouble? If he is going to have a severe reaction (resp. etc) would that show up fairly soon? He got stung about 45 mins ago. Does anybody know? Thanks a bunch!

| If a doggy allergic reaction is anything like a human allergic reaction, it would be almost immediately, but most definitely within the first 20-30 minutes. To help relieve any pain he's having, try straight lemon juice, a baking soda or meat tenderizer paste, or a cucumber slice on the area.

| Thanks for both of your replies. I think we are in the clear--I hope. He is hopping on 3 legs when I put him down. I have pretty much have been holding him since this happened. I can't seem to feel any swelling or see a stinger but he is def. favoring it. Thanks again.

| Mozes (Mo) seems to be doing fine now. I thought he was still favoring his paw a little this morning but not so much right now. I felt all around his paw and leg but I feel no swelling so I think we are very fortunate. He surely was pathetic last night though--broke my heart. He is napping right now.

| I just came on here and was going to post the same thing. Just about 20 minutes ago, we were in the backyard and my neighbor said she thought there was a bug or something stuck on Lily. I picked her up and heard buzzing. I freaked out! We figured it was a June Bug or something. I was trying to shake her off, and then a bee fell on the ground. My neighbor said he couldn't see the stinger, but he had stepped on it so it was hard to tell. But Lily wasn't crying at all and seems unaffected. If the bee stung her she would have cried, right?

| My guess is she would have at least gave a little yelp--but I can't say for sure. I know Mo was really smarting from it. How is she this morning? Jamie

| She's fine. Last night there was another bee in the kitchen. It was on the floor and Lily looked like she was trying to play with it. The bee looked like he was hurt or dying or something. I felt bad but I had to step on it. Didn't want to risk a "real" sting this time.

| Thanks! I just have to say I love Yorkie Talk. Last night my Bella got stung by a bee, and she was acting like a big ol' baby, all lethargic and limping. I was freaking out, and wanted to post something on here to get some help, but first did a search for bee stings....and sure enough you guys have already discussed it a million times, so I didn't even have to post and wait for responses...just read!! So, thanks YT'ers! |
