If a doggy allergic reaction is anything like a human allergic reaction, it would be almost immediately, but most definitely within the first 20-30 minutes.
To help relieve any pain he's having, try straight lemon juice, a baking soda or meat tenderizer paste, or a cucumber slice on the area.
