Those pictures of your baby just break my heart.. I am continuing to pray for her poor baby |
I think you've come to the point where the only option is an MRI. She seems to be getting worse from everything you've decribed and your vet is only guessing at what the problem might be. The MRI should be able to at least give you an answer so you know how to treat her. I know how expensive one is believe me but its worth it to finally get some answers. Care Credit should be able to help with the cost or try the link to imom. Prayers for you and poor Emma. |
Are you within driving distance of the University of Pennsylvania? Their veterinary hospital is one of the BEST teaching hospitals in North America. Please call their small animal hospital (The Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital) and explain your situation. They MAY treat pro bono as a teaching case. The phone number is 215.746.8387. At the very least, they may be able to get your baby into a clinical trial for pain management! PLEASE try them! |

Ken, Quick question or suggestion. I know that emma is in a lot of pain, but where she is not up and about are you moving her from one side to the other? This should be done at least once every 2 to 3 hours. And try to move her legs a little bit so she does not loose all her muscle mass. It is very hard to get back believe me still trying to get all of Babybear's back from him breaking his neck. I am sending well wishes and prayers to Emma and your family. |
Is she still in pain or are the meds helping control it... I know a number of vets who will take payments...she can't go on much longer like this..is she eating? |
I read the updates, but is she eating and drinking??? These little ones won't survive long without food and water. Please, go into debt if you have to...Get this baby the help she deserves. Make some calls...find an experienced vet...that may allow you to make payments...do whatever you have to do. Or consider surrendering her to a rescue...she can not go on like this much longer. I pray for Emma to pull through this, I pray you find a way... |
I think taking her to the vet school is probably the best option, both due to cost and in getting the needed expertise to diagnose her. If that is not a possibility, you do what love requires. Give her to a rescue or put her down. I just could not fathom letting my Gracie lay there in pain and not move heaven and earth to help her. Hope this does not sound harsh, it was not meant to. We are sending best wishes Emma's way and would be happy to make a donation to help her. Just please, get her some help! |
****wednesday Late Night "emma" Update**** FIRST LET ME SAY THAT I WILL BE CALLING THE The Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital FIRST THING IN THE MORNING!!! WHAT AN EXCELLENT SUGGESTION!!! LOOKED AT THEIR WEBSITE AND THEY ARE JUST 2 1/2 HOURS AWAY. MAN I HOPE THEY HAVE SOME KIND OF PAYMENT PLAN. TO ADDRESS SOME OF YOUR CONCERNS.. YES.. WE MOVE HER GENTLY SO THAT SHE DOES NOT ATROPHY OR GET SORE ON ONE SIDE... GOOD THINKING THOUGH AND MUCH APPRECIATED! WE PUT HER ON THE KITCHEN FLOOR AND SHE DID GO AND DRINK SOME WATER ON HER OWN... WIFE IS STILL USING A SYRINGE TO GIVE HER A BIT MORE THOUGH... SHE IS RELUCTANT TO EAT BUT SHE DID TAKE A LITTLE TURKEY AND A TINY PIECE OF CHEESE (PILL HIDDEN INSIDE). I CANNOT EVEN THINK ABOUT HANDING HER OVER TO A SHELTER... I WOULD SELL MY CAR TO CARMAX IF I HAD TO, TO SAVE OUR EMMA. WE CAN ALWAYS GET ANOTHER CAR, BUT WE CAN'T GET ANOTHER EMMA. THIS HAS BEEN SO HARD FOR HER... NORMALLY SHE WOULD HAVE JUMPED AT THE TURKEY AND CHEESE BUT NOT SO NOW... I SWEAR... I WOULD GO SERIOUSLY MENTAL IF WE LOST HER. SO... THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING WILL HAVE TO DO FOR NOW! WILL TRY AND GET SOME MORE WATER IN HER BEFORE BEDTIME... ANOTHER LONG NIGHT AHEAD OF US... HORRIBLE TO HEAR HER YELP IN PAIN EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THROUGHOUT THE NITE. WELL... MORE TOMORROW... TIME FOR EMMAS WATER AND FOR ME...ADVIL !! G'NIGHT ALL & THANKS AGAIN SO MUCH! |

Ken, Prayer's coming for your family and little Emma to get the help needed at the hospital today. I do hope it works out that she can get pain free and well again. I know your doing all you can and I respect you for that. Seeing her in pain must be so hard, I can't even imagine it. Emma is such a fighter it seems only good things can come out of this for her, I pray. Please, Lord, let them help Emma. |
Love and hugs sent to you all but especially Emma today. I will be checking every hour to hear how your day has gone. HUgs, Kim |
OLBEAR- Can't wait for your repost. I'm sure you'll find help there. Just tell them that the trainer from "down at the kennel"- Leslie Wooldridge- told you to call Laurie! ;) |
Any news yet...did you call them? Still hoping and praying for Emma's miracle, for her to be pain free and happy again. I get all teary eyed every time I think about her...I need to know that she's going to be taken care of, and that she will be well again real soon. I think Emma needs a candle lighting post...could someone that knows how, start one please? I will pray for her and you to get the help she needs. |
Still waiting for news................... |
What sad story, prayers for Emma. Please get her help fast! I see you on hoping for a update. |
Thursday Update: Another Long Nite W/ Emma 4 Attachment(s) OK...HERE IS THE LATEST FOR THOSE OF YOU KIND SOULS CONCERNED ABOUT OUR EMMA. AS EXPECTED IT WAS A LONG NIGHT AGAIN...SHE WAS UP CRYING AND WIMPERING QUITE A BIT AND SO I STAYED UP ALL NIGHT, MADE SURE SHE HAD HER MEDS, WATER AND SOFORTH.... ABOUT 5:40 SHE FELL ASLEEP AND I WAS SO WIRED THAT I JUST WATCHED TV WHILE SHE SLEPT... GOT THE KIDS OUTTA THE HOUSE & TO SCHOOL. CAME BACK AND WENT TO SLEEP FOR A WHILE. EMMA IS NOT HUNCHED UP LIKE SHE WAS / HAS BEEN BUT I KNOW THAT SHE IS VERY FRAGILE AND HER NEUROLOGICAL SYMPTOMS SEEM TO COME AND GO. SHE'S STILL WOBBLY ON HER PAWS AND AFTER A FEW HOURS IN HER CRATE I CARRIED HER OUTSIDE AND SHE DID HER BUSINESS...I LET HER WALK AROUND THE KITCHEN AND STRETCH HER LEGS WHICH SHE SEEMED TO ENJOY AND SHE WENT OVER AND ATE 5 OR 6 PIECES OF DRY DOG FOOD THAT I HAD PUT IN OUR LAB "CYRUS'S" BOWL ! THAT WAS GREAT TO SEE... SHE WALKED OVER AND GOT SOME FRESH WATER AND I PUT HER BACK IN THE CRATE. I CALLED THE Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital IN PA. AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST US... I LEFT A MESSAGE WITH NEUROLOGY ANYHOW... WHAT COULD IT HURT. THEY DO NOT OFFER PRO BONO WORK OR ANY SORT OF PAYMENT PROGRAM SADLY. I WILL BE MAKING MORE CALLS AROUND TOWN , JUST LIKE YOU ALL WOULD DO IF SHE WAS YOURS.... I TELL YA... MY HEART JUST BREAKS WHEN I SEE HER IN PAIN. I HELD THAT DOG ALL NITE LONG... AND SHE NEVER BUDGED AN INCH.. JUST STARED OFF AT THE WALL. WILL UPDATE LATER ON. MORE PICTURES FOR YOU.. NOTE SHE IS STANDING UP!!!!! ALSO INCLUDED IS A PICTURE OF CYRUS... DUMB AS A BOX OF ROCKS BUT WHAT HE LACKS IN BRAINS HE MAKES UP FOR IN LOVE ! |
Oh I am so sorry the hospital was unable to assist you. Very sad. Emma is so beautiful. I am glad she is a bit better and will continue to pray that she be pain free. Please keep trying. There has to be someone who can help those in need. Hugs to Emma, |
Thanks for the update on Emma. I'm so sorry that the Veterinary hospital wouldn't help you. So sad. Your Lab looks to be a sweetie. Love the baby for all of us. |
PLEASE please give TOPS vet rehab a call. It doesn't matter if they're close. Right now, what you need at a minimum is an idea then a diagnosis. I wish you the best. Again, call and ask for Laurie. |
I think that when they said they didn't offer payment programs, they meant that they didn't offer financing. I'm sure they take Care Credit though and they probably even help you apply. The great thing about university vet hospitals is that they offer reduced rates because they are there for research purposes and to teach students. They are also typically subsidized which means even lower rates for you. Please give them a call again and ask about care credit. It can't hurt to at least make an appointment. You may not be able to make an appointment yourself, they may only work through vet referrals meaning that your vet would need to call and make an appointment for you. |
I see a little sparkle in her eyes...she seems to be more content...I pray this is so. I would be happy to hear a definite diagnosis...then you can decide what can and can't be done for her, please keep up the search for Emma's sake. |
