So glad you could see the vet so quickly. Continuing to pray for Emma. I'll light a candle for her. Also, I would check with the brother that is the accupuncturist. Can he do something now to relieve some pain? Perhaps he can recommend a good vet accupuncturist if he feels this his beyond him. I am so sorry that you are both out of work right now. I really wish I was in the position to offer some assistance - as I know vet bills & especially ER vet bills can be out of this world! Prayers for all! |
Iam so sorry for you:( You are all in my prayers, gosh i hope she will be ok, hate to see a baby in pain, its so heart breaking, hugs to you and emma. |
I hope little Emma will recover from whatever this may be. Definitely check with your brother who does acupuncture as he most likely can help reduce her pain level. Poor baby, my heart goes out to her and you!! |
problem I am so happy to hear they gave her pain meds..soem of these surgeries are beyond the average pet lovers pocketbook..I wish I had a blank check..! |
i am so very sorry. i was thinking cushing and when i went back to look it up, i was wrong with the diagnoses. it is actually the opposite. the stomach drags not an arched back. i hate it when i do this. again, i am very sorry. |
Hi He and welcome. Hope everything works out great with your baby!! |
How is Emma today? Continuing to pray for her healing. |
Are there any updates on ths baby. I am very worried about her. |
Oh I'm so sorry for your little one. I was hoping it was just a tummy ache. The acupuncture might not be a bad idea. It certainly couldn't hurt to try. |
HI Was just checking for updates on emma, Im worried for her:( praying for you emma. |

How awful Emma is in such pain. I can't imagine what your both going through. Prayer's coming that the meds work for her and give her some pain free time so she can get well again. Lying still in crate with med sin her hopefully will heal her spine. Poor baby give her hugs from us. |
I just wanted to know how she was doing today? I hope she is a little better. |
I just read this thread...I am sorry little Emma is in such terrific pain. I hope the pain medication has relieved it some. I'll say a prayer that all is well...that she will recover from this. Please keep us updated when you can. |
Labor Day Emma Update THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT. EMMA IS NOT DOING AS WELL AS WE HAD HOPED. NATURALLY THE MEDS KNOCK HER OUT A BIT BUT SHE IS REFUSING ALL FOOD AND WATER. TRIED A FEW KINDS OF "SAFE" FOODS LIKE FRESHLY BOILED CHICKEN & EVEN TINY PIECES OF THINLY SLICED DELI SMOKED TURKEY BUT NO LUCK. WILL TRY AND FORCE FEED HER WATER WITH SYRINGE BUT SHE IS JUST SO WEAK. WE ALSO HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD BLACK LAB & HE IS CAMPED OUT OUTSIDE EMMAS CRATE. THEY ARE BEST BUDDIES & SOUL PLAYMATES... I TELL YA IT'S A SCREAM TO WATCH THEM CHARGE AROUND THE BACKYARD. ANYHOW... AT THIS POINT I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. SHE IS STILL IN OBVIOUS PAIN, HATE TO KEEP HER IN THE CRATE BUT JUST HAVE TO DO THIS AS THE VET SAID IT IS MOST IMPORTANT AND HER OLNY CHANCE IF IT IS DISC / SPINAL RELATED. YA KNOW...THEY (DOGS) HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LIKE A MEMBER OF THE FAMILY TO ME...AND IT JUST TEARS ME UP TO SEE HER IN SUCH PAIN. NECK AND BACK PAIN IS A HORRIBLE THING AND INESCAPEABLE... I'VE HAD IT AND TO KNOW THE PAIN AND SEE LITTLE EMMA SUFFERING SO BADLY ... WELL... YOU ALL KNOW... IT'S JUST HARD. THIS IS MY FIRST YORKIE AND I JUST LOVE HER TO PIECES, NEVER CONSIDERED MYSELF A "SMALLER DOG" GUY BUT EMMA STOLE MY HEART IMMEDIATLY.... WHEN SHE COMES OVER TO ME AND CURLS UP ON MY LAP, THE WORLD DISAPPEARS AND I AM REMINDED OF JUST HOW SPECIAL LIL' EMMA CAN MAKE ME FEEL. i'M 6' TALL AND 250 LBS AND A FAILRY TOUGH LOOKING GUY... BUT PUT HER IN MY ARMS AND I'M MUSH. ANYHOW... WILL FILL YOU ALL IN ON HER CONDITION TOMORROW. IF I HAVE TO I WILL GO TO THE CITY TOMORROW AND PAWN MY WATCH AND RING BECAUSE IF SHE DOES NOT TAKE FOOD AND WATER SHE'S GOING TO NEED AN IV SO SHE DOES NOT DEHYDRATE.... AND THAT TAKES $$. SPOKE WITH MY BROTHER THE ACCUPUNCTURIST AND HE SAID THAT UNTIL SHE EATS AND DRINKS SOMETHING HER BODY MIGHT NOT REACT TO KINDLY TO A SESSION. ONCE THE CORE ISSUE IS ADDRESSED & SHE BEGINS TO EAT AND DRINK, THEN HE CAN OFFER A SESSION FOR SOME PAIN RELIEF. SO, IT'S ANOTHER LONG NIGHT FOR US HERE. OH, BY THE WAY... I AM USUALLY A REALLY UPBEAT GUY AND A LOT OF FUN...BUT THIS IS VERY SERIOUS AND A MOST CRITICAL TIME FOR EMMA. VERY SCARY FOR ME! |
Update To My Last Update NEWSFLASH SHE ATE 4 PIECES OF CHICKEN AND A FEW DROPPERS FULL OF WATER!!! HEY IT AIN'T MUCH BUT IT'S A START! I AM THRILLED!!!;) |
Thats great! :D She just has to be feeling better. I think this is a good sign. :p Please keep us posted. |
You also might want to try some Nutrical (you can get it at a pet store) to keep her blood sugar from dropping since she isn't eating much. I hope she eats and drinks some more for you. I would gived her anything she will eat - cheese and yogurt seem to work well also. Still keeping she and you in our prayers. |
It saddens me to hear Emma isn't doing as well as we all hoped. But it is great that you got her to eat even a little...keep up the good work...try constantly to get a little food in her belly. I'll wish, hope and pray for Emma to recover. It is so terribly hard to watch our little ones suffer...I pray for you to have the strength to help her get well. I actually have a tear running down my cheek...I am so very sorry your baby is ill and hurting so... |
I will be keeping Emma in my thoughts and prayers until she is better. I have pm'ed you some information. I hope it helps you a little bit. Emma sending warm well wishes your way. |
I didn't realize A SLIPPED OR EXPLODED DISK could cause a fever??? Scruffy had these same symptoms a few months back 3 separate times, all at 2 weeks apart. The Vet never found out what it was - but thought it was Pancreatitis. Will be keeping you all in our Prayers! Kim |

I know exactlly what you are going through. Scruffy was slightly dehydrated & had to be on IV's all day for his 1st attack. Prayers are with you, Kim |
I have just read this post I am so sorry to hear that little Emma is having such pin. We are praying that she has relief soon. Please keep posting updates on her condition. We will keep praying for her fast recovery.:hands: :hands: :hands: Glad to hear she ate something . Tina Pucci:aimeeyork GiGi:aimeeyork |
Any news on Emma today? Hope she's still doing well. Please update when you can. |
Ken, Good luck with that little one. It hurts my heart to think about her being in so much pain. Did the vet take Xrays? Surely that would show whatever is wrong with her back! Make sure she gets something to keep her glucose level up. Karo syrup, honey anything you can give her if you can't afford the previously mentioned items. Please keep updating us. L |
We are checking to see how Emma is doing today I see there is no updates. Maybe they were able to bring her back to the vets office for more help. We are keeping the prayers coming your way. |
How is emma ? |
Tuesday UPDATE on EMMA'S condition TUESDAY UPDATE WELL , I REALLY WISH I HAD BETTER NEWS BUT ALAS I DO NOT, SHE IS BARELY EATING ANYTHING, WILL NOT TAKE WATER, WAS PARALLIZED WITH PAIN AND LAYING ON HER SIDE IN THE CRATE... AGAIN WITH THAT 300 YARD STARE... JUST SCARES THE &^%@#! OUT OF ME... I HAVE TO GO OVER AND WATCH HER CHEST TO EVEN SEE IF SHE IS ALIVE. NATURALLY I HAVE GIVEN HER PAIN MEDS BUT SHE JUST DOES NOT LOOK GOOD. YEAH, I AM A BIG TOUGH GUY BUT WHEN IT COMES TO ANIMALS, ESPECIALLY MINE, I JUST TURN TO PUTTY! SO, WILL WATCH HER CAREFULLY AND PRAY PRAY PRAY. |
Did your vet talk to you about how to use a paper clip? Take a straightened paper clip and gently press it to the pads of her back feet. Do this every few hours. If there comes a time when she no longer reacts to the pressure, she is experiencing paralysis and you must get her to a vet right away for spinal surgery or the paralysis will be permanent. I am sorry to hear that she is not better. My prayers go out for both of you. |
I agree with you about checking for paralysis. Myself whenever I check Babybear I just pinch between his pads on his feet to tell how he is doing. I was never told of the paper clip. I will have to keep that in mind. It sure to me sounds like she might have what Babybear had. It can happen quickly. And sometimes if they do not do digital xrays you can not find the problems in the neck. I pmed you on this subject. I hope you can get to it if not let us know and we can help you get to your pm's. I am sending extra prayers for Emma and your family. Quote:
