I am sorry, but there would be no way i would let that poor Baby suffer in so much pain without finding another vet for another opinion, PLEASE find a way to help her !!!!   |
I pray for Emma to get better quick...if she is not even taking water...ask the vet bluntly what can you expect from her condition. If necessary and if it would be helpful I'd admit her for test and IV nutrition/hydration...she must be suffering terribly, and this is so very difficult for you to stand by and watch. I feel for you...I understand how hard it is money wise...but please do what's right for Emma...I'm sorry. |
I Hope & Pray Emma gets better soon! |
I am praying that she gets better soon! |
Evening Follow Up / Emma THANKS 2 YOU ALL.... SHE IS IN THE CRATE AND YES...I GOT THE PRIV. MESSAGE AND THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL!!! I KNOW THAT DIGITAL XRAYS WOULD BE THE WAY TO GO HOWEVER WE JUST DO NOT HAVE THE $$ TO DO THIS. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THAT THIS IS JUST SO HARD TO SEE HAPPEN...IF WE COULD AFFORD IT I WOULD HAVE HER AT THE BEST VET IN THE COUNTRY... I LOVE BOTH MY DOGS SO MUCH... WE ALL DO. sHE'S BEEN IN THE CRATE, AS I MENTIONED , ALL DAY AND, WELL... YOU ALL KNOW HOW THAT WENT TODAY. mT WIFE FORCE FED HER SOME WATER FROM A SYRINGE THIS EVENING AND GAVE HER MORE MEDS TO EASE HER SUFFERING ALTHOUGH NOW SHE JUST STANDS THERE WITH HER HEAD DOWN... TALK ABOUT A HEARTBREAKER!!! MORE TOMORROW... THANK YOU TO YOU ALL.. SUCH GREAT SUPPORT!!! |
aren't there any vets that do pro bono type work or that are willing to work with people? You can't deny medical treatment to a human, I don't see how you could 'deny' it to a sick animal. (using the term deny loosely) |
I completely agree with you. I remember when Babybear broke his neck. I had called the ER to see what the cost would be just for a consult and they told me that I had to pay for it upfront or have Care Credit before they would see Babybear. Then when they found out what was going on they would need a little more than half of the surgery cost before preforming the surgery. It makes you feel so useless when you can not help your babies. I had to beg my family for help when they did not help I had to have my husband apply for care credit to get surgery done. I understand 100% where Ken and his wife are coming from when it comes to this I have been there a little over a year ago. I am still paying for Babybear's surgery, but thank god my husband had the credit to get the card to have it done or I most likely would not have Babybear today. I am praying that Emma gets feeling well soon. I will continue to keep her and her family in my thoughts and prayers. |
I have goose bumps reading about little Emma's ordeal. I cannot believe she has to suffer in such pain. I would get out the phone book and start calling EVERY vet in it. Explain the situation and how she is suffering and ask each and every one to help or tell you how you can get help. You will probaly come accross at least one who will be willing to help poor Emma. You are bound to come up with at least one who loves animals enough to not be able to sleep at night knowing there is a baby suffering who could have been helped. I wonder also if you post information on who your vet is maybe some of the members here could make donations to the vet to help pay the bill to get her feeling better. Praying for sweet Emma to feel better soon. Kim |
I would definitely get another opinion!!! |
This is so heartbreaking. I'll be praying for little Emma. |
I feel so bad for this baby, keeping her in my prayers. Please try and get a creditcard and get this baby some help. You can go here and sign up for it. http://www.carecredit.com/ If your vet accepts it, it's interest free, as long as you pay it off in the time 12 or 18 months. |
How is Emma today? |
:( I'm so sorry you and your baby are going through this. I know you feel helpless wanting to help, seeing her in such pain and $$$ standing in the way. There has to be a kind hearted vet out there who will maybe take payments or treat her simply because she's in so much pain. It makes me really sad that you're both having to suffer like this. My 37 year old son ruptured a disc in his back at Christmas, no insurance, couldn't work, couldn't even walk. You wouldn't believe all we went through trying to get surgery for him...but, we preservered and succeeded in getting his surgery. Anyway, there are miracles and we will be praying for one for you and your baby. Best wishes! |
Prayers continue for Emma. How soon does she go to the vet again? Or will you seek a 2nd opinion. Praying for you and your wife also. |
Just checking on emma today, Im so saddened knowing she is in so much pain, I hope something is done soon to help her, PRAYING for you emma. |
The thought of this little one in constant pain must be unbearable, for me it is. If, there is absolutely no way, to fund the help that is needed and to keep her from being in constant pain 24/7 I would have her PTS. It just is not fair to have this pup suffer from day to day without the help that is needed. Perhaps releasing her to a Yorkie Rescue who would see that she gets the medical treatment that is needed would be an option for you. I hope you can do something soon to ease her pain. This is a tragic story. |

The Care Credit is a great idea. I have really bad credit due to really bad spending when I first turned 18, but I needed to get some dental work done a while ago and there was no way I was going to be able to pay up front. I was approved for $3000 on Care Credit and the payments are pretty good- not too high. The no interest thing is nice too and I know they are pretty flexible about raising your credit limit if the doctor calls to ask. Get the care credit and take her to who ever you need to... |
I would definitely try a different vet, i don't understand how a vet would be sending home a dog that is in that much pain. I know vets here that will just operate etc then set up a payment plan afterwards if the owner doesnt have insurance, surely there are vets in the US that will do this also. |
Wednesday Afternoon Emma Update 3 Attachment(s) SIGH, HEARTBREAKING DOES NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO HOW WE FEEL ABOUT EMMAS CONDITION. SHE IS SIMPLY LAYING ON HER SIDE WITH A BLANK STARE. NO LICKS TO MY NOSE WHEN I GET UP CLOSE TO HER, NO RESPONSE TO SHOW ENERGY OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. WE ARE GOING TO RAISE THE CRATE UP SO THAT SHE CAN SEE AROUND HER AS SHE SEEMS TO STILL NOT BE ABLE TO LIFT HER HEAD. i WILL LOOK INTO THE CARE CREDIT THAT SOME OF YOU HAVE SUGGESTED... THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT BY THE WAY. I DON'T FEEL RIGHT TAKING $ DONATIONS RIGHT NOW... ALTHOUGH IF IT COMES TO THAT I WILL HAVE TO SWALLOW MY PRIDE AND ASK THE VEST IF THAT IS SOMETHING THAT THEY DO. MAN THIS IS HARD. AS FAR AS HAVING HER PTS (PUT TO SLEEP) AS ONE OF THE RESPONDANTS SUGGESTED, I REALLY CANNOT EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT. WE WOULD ALL BE CRUSHED... SHE'S A MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY... BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE SIMPLY CONSIDERING HER QUALITY OF LIFE. WE SAVED UP A LONG LONG TIME FOR THE CHANCE TO OWN A YORKIE AND I KNOW WE WOULD NOT BE IN THE POSITION TO PURCHASE ANOTHER FOR A LONG LONG TIME..... I TELL YA.. IT BREAKS MY HEART. WE HAVE A LAB AND A CAT AND A SEAHORSE.... ALL GET ALONG LIKE PEAS IN A POD. CRACKS ME UP TO SEE THE CAT "GROOMING" EMMA... AND EMMA LOVES / LOVED IT. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A VET IN MARYLAND, DC, NORTHERN VIRGINIA, DELEWARE OR NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA WHO DOES PRO BONO WORK PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW. PHOTO'S ARE AS OF TODAY 9-5-07..... TELL ME THAT DOES NOT JUST BREAK YOUR HEART! KEN |
Perhaps you could contact a Yorkie Rescue group. Many times they will take your poor baby in and give it the help it requires when there is financial difficulty. I do belive at this point you would have to relinquish your ownership, but if she is in this much pain ... perhaps this is what she needs? No one wants to part with their loving pet, but to see her in this much pain would literally just kill me and I would do whatever I had to do, even if it meant handing her over to those who could help. |
Oh gosh what a heartbreaking story! Poor Poor Emma! I hope you can get her the care she needs and soon too. It does stink that vet care is sooo expensive especially when you can't and don't plan on something just happening to your baby. Do you know how this happened or when? Did she play too rough with the lab or get caught on something or fall off something or jump from somewhere too high? How long has it been now? My thoughts & prayers are with Emma! |
J ust seen this post .So sorry about Emma.My late yorkie,Trixie Suffered with a slipped disc and I was told the same as you ,rest and painkillers. It took a few weeks to recover and always had a weak back. She would hurt it so easily. The arched back was the first sign for a visit to the vets for pain killer Trixie never liked moving when her back hurt.I do hope this works out for you.I know how helpless you can feel whenn they are in pain.Get well Emma |
How is Emma doing today?? I'm still praying for Emma's recovery... :hands: :hands: :xfingers: :4lc: :4lc: :hearts33: |
Oh gosh, was a heartbreaking story! Poor little Emma! That sweet baby is suffering beyond what any dog should. :( :( There has to be at least one vet who will help you and Emma. Money isn\'t everything, especially when there is a living, breathing little girl in pain. :( :( I feel sick to my stomach over this. |
just wanted to thank you for your prayers!!!! really appreciate it!!! ken / olbear |
Ken, How is Emma doing today?? please update us. My heart just breaks knowing the pain she is in. I know it is killing you also and I am sure your wife is a wreck. some here have been in your shoes and we are here for you. |
I am so sorry for you and the baby .. there are some great ideas on here .. i also would grab a phone book and call all the vets in your area and tell them you whole story .. email some .. include the inability to pay that and any ideas you have to pay it off even in Ca i found a vet who would take payments. and some who have let people work off there debt cleaning kennels doing Manual labor pouring cement... sometimes you will find a vet who values a pets love over a credit score ...you and your baby are in our prayers |
