There are 2 other Specialist Hospitals here on Long Island that I know of, but I just didn't care for them I will call my Vet in the AM and ask him what he thinks I should do. The way my Vet was talking and explaining things to me about Roxy was all about an external shunt. I asked him if these results showed a definate shunt. He said NO, only the ultrasound would show a shunt. I don't know what to pray for??? MVD or Shunt | |

| Shunts are operable and repairable...MVD is managed through diet and supplements for the life of the dog. Generally, less than 100 usually points towards MVD and over 100 points more towards liver shunt, but there are ALWAYS exceptions. I know of dogs with under 100 who had liver shunt and dogs with over 300 with MVD.

| Yes They do doppler!! That's great news. I'm not sure about the antihistamines...I know there are lots of meds that liver compromised dogs are not supposed to take. You might try asking in the liver group to see if anyone there has experience with that.

| It sounds like you are receiving expert help via YT and vet care. I am clueless about the diagnosis, except to say "remember to breath deeply - inhale and exhale". Try to relax and you are wise to not feed Science Diet. Good luck and will watch for an update. Warmly, Deborah

| I'm not sure what kind you give Roxy but when I found out that Lily had MVD, I asked Dr. Tobias if she could still take Benadryl and she said it wouldn't be a problem. Of course, that was after I had a definite diagnosis of MVD.
