| Mucussy Stool (sq*) Holly got spayed and had teeth pulled on Tuesday. Because her mouth was sore, I switched her from sometimes mixed wet and kibbled Canidae to just wet since she couldn't chew the kibble. She has eaten this since Tuesday night. The only other thing she's eaten is yogurt drop to disguise the pain meds. This morning her stool was a little softer, and right at the end. it got a little mucussy. Like phlem almost. It was clear by the way. Should I worry? Or do you think it was the change in foods to just wet? HELP!

| Thanks so much. I will monitor it. I am hoping it doesn't get worse. I was just going over the post-op papers to see if I found anything. Thanks again.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I remember reading that if it is mucous at the "end" of the poo - it's their anal glands emptying. If it mucous around the whole poo, then it's something from their GI tract. Do I have that correct?

| No she hasn't pooped Tara. Have you had this happen before? I guess if it was diarrhea or something she would have done it more than once right? I guess we'll just have to see when she poops again. I'll post then.

| I'd think it was a change in the food, but if it gets real bad could you add some white rice to firm up her stool?

| holly Yes, Boston has had the mucus with his stool this last time when I took him back to the vet on Tuesday and they found all of the bacteria. I wouldn't worry unless you see it more than once. If she poops again and the next time it's the same way, I'd take a sample in. Hope she's doing better. Poor baby. Why do doggies have to get sick?

| Hi Tara, Holly is okay. She quit whining so that's good. The pain meds are finished and well today I went to mass and I left her here at the house. When I came back there was something on the floor. I didn't know if it was puke or really bad diarrhea. But there was hard poop so it might be puke. I am calling the Vet on Monday because I don't know if the soft food is giving her the soft stools and/or puking, and well she's not been eating her kibble because well I think it's too hard and her mouth is probably still sore. So she's been a bit finicky. I did make her a boiled chicken breast and white rice. She ate some last night and I'm going to try to give her some tonight as well. I was also thinking the other day that my husband said he had softened the kibble with a little warm milk. So perhaps if she went after that after a while, the milk may have made the kibble go bad hence her soft stool. IDK. I'm just trying to think of what could be the cause. I am calling the vet first thing tomorrow see what he thinks. Otherwise, she goes in to get her stitches removed on Friday. We'll see what happens.

| HOlly Gosh...isn't it aweful when you KNOW something isn't right but you don't know what? I sure hope it's not an infection or bacteria or anything. Let me know tomorrow what the vet says. I would take a stool sample with you just to be on the safe side.
