I found out a week ago (the day before we were leaving for vacation) that Juju has giardia! The vet said he has seen more cases this year than ever. I was freaking out too...and I still am. He gave me 5 syringes with Panacur in them...one syringe per day. She STILL has diarrhea. We have to go back for another treatment. Steadman can catch it from her and so can you!!! So be careful. I've been using clorox to clean up. They can get re-infected from the yard too. Juju is not really acting sick...but she did throw up foam in the car on the way to the mountains last week. I was scared she was dying!! I ran into a Dollar Store (there was NOTHING else around) and bought honey and gave her some. When we got to the cabin, she ate and acted fine. But, she still has soft stool and occasional blood. It's driving me crazy. Good luck with Tate!! |
Since she is still so little, could certainly be coccidia or giardia. When I went through this with Oz, they ruled out both of those. But believe me when I say I know how scary this is. It's just NOT normal. Even the vet said that while seeing this kind of thing occasionally, it was still unnerving to them.;) Ozzie was diagnosed with HGE. (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis) He had a bout in November and another in February. Flagyl is one of three meds he was one. In both instances, he was much improved within a day or two. (He DID have to stay in the hospital both times, however.) The upside is that while trying to find out more info on HGE, I found YorkieTalk!:) No matter what it is, I sure hope Tatum is well again soon. You definitely deserve a break. Thoughts and prayers for both of you. |
I jumped to the end of the thread so this may have already been metioned, but Hootie has had bloody gel-like stool several times in the past and each time I call my vet, she tells me not to panic bc blood in a dog's stool is nothing like blood in a human's stool. It's definately not always serious. I am sure Tatum just has an inflamed colon from the food change and she'll be better in no time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not giardia. |
Brooke I hope Tantum is feeling better today. I am just seeing this thread and know how freeked out you must have been. Hugs, |
Brooke I am sorry I am just seeing this I haope all is ok with lil tatum. I will keep her in my prayers. |
Just checking to see how Tatum is feeling today. Hope all goes well at the vet's. Get better, little sweetie. |
One time Chachi had diahrea wth blood in it and it was just bowel upset. I hope everything is okay wth Tatum |
Brooke, I just came across this, and am sending prayers and hugs. Poor little baby! Are you going to the vet today? Will look for update later. Judy |
Awww Brooke I am so sorry about Tatum, bless both of your hearts...I just read this and you are probably getting her to the vet this morning, I am praying she will be okay and be not be sick anymore...give that cutie pie a big hug & kiss...:p |
I hope Tatum is okay!!! Any news yet??? |
I keep checking in here to see if there is any news! Poor thing, did not sleep last night, I don't blame her, I would have done the same thing. |
coccidia My Sister in law had a Beagle puppy that did the same thing. She had coccidia. It lasted for a couple of weeks. I think she had to take antibiotics, but was ok. She freaked out because bloody stool sounds so horrible, but I guess it is kind of a common problem in puppies. Hope your baby is well soon!:getwell: |
OMG...Brooke I just saw this thread....How is Tate today? I think that she will be fine. I believe the irritation from the diarrhea is what is causing the blood. My golden Jake had that very same poop when he was a puppy once and it was coccidia, some antibiotics and he was fine. I know how scared you are but I think that she will be just fine after some antibiotics. Keep up updated.....;) |
Prayers are being sent for Tatum Quote:

Any News??? Brooke--just checking in to see if there is any news on Tatum? I hope she is feeling much better today. I hope Mommy got some rest last night, too. I understand how scary things like that are after taking little Oscar to the ERvet last week! |
Hey Brooke. Hope that you get this resolved with Tatum soon. Poor little lump. Make sure that you take the stool sample to the vet. The only time we ever had bloody poop like that (different breed of dog) was when Katie had hook worms. One pill and it was taken care of but with the tummy rumbling that you're hearing, hopefully it's something else. Saying prayers for you guys. |
Poor Tatum, how's she today?? |
Hey Brooke, I just replied to your pm but wanted to check to see if you had left an update yet. I hope she's feeling better. Give her tons of kisses from us. ;) She's in our prayers. |
Awww, just seeing this for the first time. Hopefully you were able to get her into the vet this am. Sending hugs and prayers, I'm sure she will be fine! |
I hope Tatum is feeling better soon! Tammy |
