| Poor baby! I am happy it's benign, but it has to be scary anyway.

Yes, indeed. When he first said it's skin tumor, we were waiting to hear some good news. I think he noticed our face turned extremely white(blood level dropped) so he paused and looked at us and said it's definitely not life-threatening LOL, we were sooooo relieved, he started laughing, cause he knows we are his most paranoid pet owners They are going to surgically remove it off... so stitching is required of course. We're dropping her off in the morning, getting her back in the afternoon,It's kinda disappointing and frustrating because just last month she been spayed, then she had an accident--trauma to the head, and now SKIN TUMOR? she's been through way too much. I hope this is the last time she requires surgery... poor baby. He said since it grew and what not, it's not capable of drying up and coming off on it's on (in some cases that's what happens) the only thing might happen is bleeding, so we're like just remove it for us please. He could of done it today, but we weren't ready... $270 ... he went easy on us with the price, since we've spent nearly $2000 - spaying & her recent injury. | Hey guys, I've tried searching about it and believe it's Histiocytomas.... and I also went to Google Images and put: Histiocytomas , and I do believe thats what Missy has on her back close to hip area. Histiocytomas General Information Histiocytomas are very common skin tumors in dogs but very rare in cats. These tumors are benign (non-cancerous) and usually affect younger pets. Boxers, Dachshunds, Cocker Spaniels, Great Danes and Shetland Sheepdogs are more susceptible to these growths than other breeds. Histiocytomas usually occur singly on the head and face, ears and legs. Usually they are less than 1 inch in diameter, button- or dome-shaped, and ulcerated. http://www.bobmckee.com/Client%20Inf...iocytomas.html If you google images 'Histiocytomas' some of the pics look identical to Missy's. I'm glad it is nothing serious. And since it's gotten red, it's best to be removed, then having to watch it for extended weeks. |

| Well... we've sent the ugly little skin tumor to the lab. So total cost came up to $425.... I wish dogs & other pets had OHIP The Vet said since she's young, he wouldn't think it's dangerous.... but he did take a look at it under a microscope and he said most of the cells were fine, but some black ones worried him just a lil bit, so he said it is definitely best to just send it out to the Lab. So, I am back to being worried once again. This has been so hard for us. |

| I am glad your vet is being careful, but OMGosh! How long do they think it will take to get the results back? I definitely think you are right to send it in to be tested, but that has to be at least a little bit of an owie on the budget. Sending hugs and prayers from Texas.

| Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | I am so sorry...I am hoping the black spots are just broken blood vessels....my hubby works in a dermatology lab he looks at skin specimens, tumors, and growths of all kinds everyday...he is not a dog expert but said if that was on a human...Its not even close to being cancerous. Black cells are usually just dried blood cells turning dark and scary looking. Hope that helps! He says relax..he really thinks it's nothing.

Thank you very much. I feel much better. Also, Missy was biting on it occasionally, so that may be why there was black dry looking spots.... or bloody vessels, from biting it. Thank you all. | |
