My puppy has pneumonia. What should I do? 1 Attachment(s) I found out my little puppy has pneumonia. They thought it was kennel cough at first. Any advice on how serious this is? She is playful and eats. Coughing sounds better; she only coughs a few times a day now. I am so worried about her and do not want to give her back for another puppy. She was sick when I got her from the seller. They are giving her breathing treatments right now and hopefully that will help and is on AB. Not sure what to do from there on.... When do you know that the pneumonia is gone?:aimeeyork |
I would just follow your Vet's advice. It will take a little while for the AB to take action. |
Just obey the vet's advice and recommendations. Even if she *seems* well after taking the AB for awhile, make sure you finish out the ABs or it will come back. |
She is so cute, hope she is better soon:) welcome to yt:D |
Poor baby !! First - I'd follow the vets instructions very carefully and try to find others who've been thru this for tips....2nd - I'd talk to the breeder and see what she says - I totally understand you wanting to keep her and trading for another is not an option ...but the breeder should work with you I would hope she does if she came to you sick....and 3rd - if your breeder sucks and isn't responsive - post a review here so others are aware. I've read where many can come thru this with no aftereffects but the treatment can take a long time - and GOOD LUCK to you - I hope she's going to be ok |

You probably need to call the breeder just to inform her/ him. The breeder needs to know for several reasons, but mainly so that any other pups can be checked. Poor baby! |
Sorry about your baby. If its like people pneumonia, it will take awhile for it to be completely resolved. I'm sure you know to finished the antibiotics. I would ask the vet if its viral or bacterial and what the difference is between them. Hope your baby continues to improve!!! |

Gizmo thanks you! Your little girl is a stunner!! Did you mention her name? I probably just missed it somewhere, but would like to know. How is she doing today? |

I was sad this morning. Her cough sounded bad. I dropped her off at the people I got her from and I couldn't help but cry. I told them this is very frustrating and I don't know what to do. I was sold a sick dog and I can't afford all the expensive vet bills it might take to get her well since I do not currently have a job and I don't want to bring her back to them not only because I am attached to this little girl and love her but also because it is heartbreaking to think that they might put her to sleep. She's going to get the treatment three times today...we'll see. How old is Gizmo and is she hyper as hell as my Baby is? :) She likes to bite on everything and everybody too. |
LOL Baby is a cute name. Sorry I missed that. Gizmo is hyper in spurts and then he has his quiet lap moments. He plays differently with different members of our household. He is a puppy, so he does bite, but we don't play biting type games with him involving our hands or toes. When he bites hard we remove attention (He does NOT like that!) for awhile and redirect him to a chewing toy. The biting hard has stopped for the most part. We just have to be consistent. :) I'm confused about something in your last post. Who did you take Baby to? The person you got her from? The breeder or ?? I probably just read your post wrong, but I'm confused. |
I'm confused too...I hope Baby is getting better. Did you buy her from a pet store? You said the breeder was in Arkansas...where is Baby getting treatments? |
I hope Baby is feeling better after her treatments. Did you decide to take her back afterall. Your post sounded like you did but then you sounded like you still have her too. Either way I hope she gets over this pneumonia that is keeping her from feeling good. Hope the treatments and ABs do the job. |

So you bought a puppy and she was sick when you got her and you're taking her back there for medical treatment? Has Baby been to a vet, and did the vet prescribe the antibiotics and breathing treatments? Or are you relying only on the couple you bought the puppy from? God, I wish her well, for your sake and hers... |
Hi Samantha, Thanks for the update. Did you talk to your own vet or their vet? I ask because something seems very, very wrong with this situation. I will not say anything else and let more experienced yorkie owners here give you advice because I don't want to say the wrong thing. Please stay online for awhile tonight if you can and let them give you advice. Just know that I care! And I am here. If you get overwhelmed, please send me a private message on this site. Hugs. |

I know this has to be tough. You obviously care very much about Baby. Choosing a vet, treatment, etc.. can be very confusing. I know. |

U see, me and my husband are confused too and feel like something seems weird with the whole situation. The impression I have right now is that the breeder in Arkansa is just breeding a bunch of Yorkies in an unhealthy enviorment and not taking care of them properly and working with this couple to selling the dogs in Las Vegas. This couple don't know anything about the dogs. Everything I ask they say they will find out. I have asked about the shot records at leat 7 times by now and still haven't gottne anything and the same with the so called AKC registry. Yesterday the lady said she swears on the bible the dog is registered because I started questioning her on it. She said she just has been busy since all of a sudden last week her 50 year old husband got a heart attack and has to get 5 bypass surgery and at the same time they are saying that they were out of town and at the same time moved to a new place. I don't know what to think. It's hard for me to think bad about people but I am sceptic. They just seem so nice in person. I'm confused. |

Have you picked Baby up today? Is she with you now or with them? |

If you have to leave before the others are able to answer, please get back online and check this thread later. I don't know if the others will agree with me or not, but I would go pick her up as usual. I would not confront them yet. Just get Baby home and check back. I hope she's doing better tonight. I know you can't wait to see her! |
I'm so sorry! I don't know anything about Phnemonia in a puppy but I would take her to different vets to find out more info on it. I think those people are irresponsible and are lying to you. I'm so sorry this is happening to you! |
Samantha, Did they give you any paper work when you bought the puppy, does she have a health guarantee? I agree with Judy...go get your baby, don't ask them any questions yet, just bring Baby home. Then come back on here...we will get some other opinions from some of the people here that have dealt with this kind of thing to help you. My personal feeling is they are taking advantage of you. That Baby deserves better treatment and they should be responsible for that treatment. They sold you a sick puppy, that's just wrong. They should be footing the vet bills, not treating her at their place. She could very possibly need to be hospitalized. I want to see what other people here think. We will help you get Baby better. But most important thing to do now is get her out of there and back home with you. I pray that Baby will make it, that she will get the proper care. Good luck, come back here for further assistance. Please... |
