Sure hope Ralphie is better soon. I went through this with Ozzie TWICE in four months (once in November, again in February). Can't seem to find my original posts, though. They are what first brought me to YT! I'd never heard of such a thing before and this is Yorkie #2 and he's almost 10.

Ozzie eats homecooked -- always has. Our vet said that in addition to diet changes, stress or even eating a bug can upset the bacteria levels enough to trigger this condition.

I feel for you. It is one scary episode to live through, that's for sure.

I can't find my original posts but when I do, I'll share the link.

Yes, it's very scary. I hope this never recurs. And thank you for everyone's help. Tomorrow it's back to the vet and blood work. Ralphie seems better today but he did not eat tonight which causes some concern plus he vomited the meds this morning. His poop seems back to normal and I don't see any visual signs of blood. He's also on new food temporarily....the Hill's W/D and I'm not so sure that's good for calcium oxalate stones. He was on the U/D before. I truly hate all this stuff. It's the grossest gluey canned food I have ever seen. I don't know how any doggie finds it palatable....ugh! Will update tomorrow!

Royal Canin veterinary makes a food that is supposed to help with calcium oxalate stones also. Ask your vet to check into that.

That's exactly what I was asking him to switch Ralphie to tomorrow! I did ask about the Royal Canin before he started him on the Hill's stuff and for some reason he felt the Hills might be better for him and who knows why? He sells both. Reading the ingredients from both companies makes me sick...rice, corn meal , chicken fat, pork liver....ughhhh. It might help prevent stones but it didn't help his weight! The more labels I read, the more I despise dog food.

The fact is that pork liver is actually one of the worst things for a dog with these kinds of stones. It's very high in purines and it's also medium oxalate, so whether your dog has urate or calcium oxalate stones, it's bad for them. And it's very high in fat...

Me too, I can't feed dog food anymore.
