| Oh gosh, I hope it's just roundworm!! I'll be praying tonight! If it's not, then before you do any other testing, do a bile acid test which is about $40. If the levels are high, then I would contact the University of Tennesee. They do pre-surgery testing, the surgery, and post-op work for around $1400. That is the cheapest I've seen, and Dr. Karen Tobias is one of the best liver shunt specialists around. If you decide not to contact UT, then the next test I would have done is a scintigraphy because many times ultrasounds can be inconclusive, and then it's a waste of money because you have to do more testing. If they are not able to find an extrahepatic shunt with the scintigraphy, then she probably has MVD which is managed through diet, lactulose and supplements. Make sure and not give her any commercial treats, as many of them are very high in protein, at least until they find out more. Try giving cheerios, apples(peeled and cut into small pieces), watermelon, carrots... Praying for your baby!!!!

| Thank you Yorkieluv, I have read all the liver shunt posts I could find here and I see you are very knowledgeable. I will contact Karen Tobias if Brooke's test results come back that she has a shunt. The easiest part is the phone call, the hardest part is coming up with 1400$...but I will do everything I can, I don't want to lose her. I am sure I will have tons of questions, because I know some of you have gone through this disaster...thank you for your concern everyone...
