| Can you get your pet back from YorkieRescue ? I was thinking about this lastnight and wonder what is the procedure when you give up your pet to YorkieRescue ? Do you sign ownership to them and that's it. What happens after they get surgery and put up for adoption? Are you able to try and adopt them after that ? I was just wondering this because I have seen several Yorkies on an adoption page from Yorkie rescue. I wonder if the previous owner is not allowed to even try to adopt them. I guess I'm asking the same question over and over huh? lol I personally know that I would not be able to give up one of my furbabies. I also know that some have no choice and must do this in order to save the pet's life. I would end up running up credit cards even if I had to make minimum payments for life! After reading one of the threads of the adorable little Rio who was diagnosed with liver shunt,it just tore me up inside when I saw her on video. The breeder sounded responsible on taking her back and getting her treatment. I keep my worries to myself mainly because most people think I'm nuts when I talk about things that can go wrong with yorkies. I'm paranoid with my new little furball and make sure he has food in several gated areas of my house 24 hrs a day. It makes it so difficult because Cookie who has MVD (liver can't process protein) he wants to eat the puppy's food so I usually have to put the food down for the puppy 4 times a day and watch him eat enough and have to take the bowl away if Cookie is going to play with him. Knock on wood, so far Cookie has had no emergencies for about a year now, thank God Genie Cookie Lola Angel |

| You know, I used to wonder the same thing! But I'm almost positive that you're not allowed to adopt the dog once you've given him/her up...That story about little Rio just broke my heart too. Liver shunt/mvd is just terrible. I sound totally paranoid to everyone around me too simply because of our experiences with Miko. I hear you about how hard it is feeding two different foods one of which a liver compromised dog can't have. Which food did you decide on for Cookie? Miko gets Dr. Dodd's liver cleansing diet now and Emma gets a recipe from Dr. Pitcairn's book. I feed them at the same time, but I give Miko his food in the kitchen, and I take Emma to our master bathroom and feed her there. That way they don't get into each other's food. We feed them both four smaller meals per day. But before this when they were eating dog food. We left Miko's low protein food out all day so that he could eat whenever he wanted to. And we would feed Emma 3 meals per day separate from where Miko was. I'm so happy that Cookie is doing so well!! That is very encouraging to those of us that have furbabies with liver shunt/mvd...

| I still have him in the Hills Science diet low protein for adults. I got the prescription from our vet for the Royal Canin Hepatic LS but I am waiting on a shipment for smaller bag. The Petsmart near us only had the 17 lb bag and I know it would go bad. Cookie only eats 2 meals a day that I can say because it takes him forever to eat one serving. Genie Cookie Lola Angel |

| WOW, I was just talking about this with my fiancee. I was also so upset after reading about little Rio and had the same questions about yorkie rescue. Like many I would be running up the credit cards to save any of my baby's lives but for some this simply isn't an option and they have no choice but to give their baby up. I'd really love to know all the details when something likes this happens?? So sad and I can only hope I'm never put in that type of situation

| I know, it's so sad...But it's great that there are so many yorkie rescues out there that are willing to help!

| Little Rio broke my heart too. I don't believe you can adopt a dog from rescue once you've given it up. If that were the case, can you imagine how many people would be dropping of dogs with expensive medical needs with plans to get them back after the rescue spent the money? It seems unfair, in a way, but the goal of the rescue is to find a new forever home, not to reunite furbabies with the families who gave them up. Anyway, TG that there are so many good rescues!

| I'm 99.9% certain that they you would not be able to adopt the dog back. I have dealt with a couple of rescues trying to adopt and some are very strict about their adopting homes. To me it is wise to get the medical care for a dog if you can not afford it but also be willing to take the loss of not having them in your life again. It would be a misuse of the rescue system to turn them over and then after the medical needs are met to ask for them back. You do have to sign papers at the time you turn them over to the rescue giving up all you rights to ownership. JMO
