You know, I used to wonder the same thing! But I'm almost positive that you're not allowed to adopt the dog once you've given him/her up...That story about little Rio just broke my heart too. Liver shunt/mvd is just terrible. I sound totally paranoid to everyone around me too simply because of our experiences with Miko.

I hear you about how hard it is feeding two different foods one of which a liver compromised dog can't have. Which food did you decide on for Cookie?

Miko gets Dr. Dodd's liver cleansing diet now and Emma gets a recipe from Dr. Pitcairn's book. I feed them at the same time, but I give Miko his food in the kitchen, and I take Emma to our master bathroom and feed her there. That way they don't get into each other's food. We feed them both four smaller meals per day.

But before this when they were eating dog food. We left Miko's low protein food out all day so that he could eat whenever he wanted to. And we would feed Emma 3 meals per day separate from where Miko was.

I'm so happy that Cookie is doing so well!! That is very encouraging to those of us that have furbabies with liver shunt/mvd...
