  I'm 99.9% certain that they you would not be able to adopt the dog back.  I have dealt with a couple of rescues trying to adopt and some are very strict about their adopting homes. To me it is wise to get the medical care for a dog if you can not afford it but also be willing to take the loss of not having them in your life again.  It would be a misuse of the rescue system to turn them over and then after the medical needs are met to ask for them back.  You do have to sign papers at the time you turn them over to the rescue giving up all you rights to ownership. JMO
