| Update! Pixie is out of surgery! The front desk person said she is awake and everything went wonderful! I am so relieved! Go, Pixie, Go! YEAH!! Anyway, I'll be there shortly after 5:30 to get her and either get her settled at home or transferred to the hospital. Will keep everyone updated, of course

| Pixie is home. She looks horrid... and she feels about that way, too. I sent Hubby after a kennel that we've now got in the bedroom. It's lined with a towel and has a pillow for padding. Pixie is crying - I know she's in pain. They gave her a shot today and sent us with some pain pills, but we don't start with those until tomorrow. Will keep you updated...

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | glad to hear pixie is out of surgery #1. just curious, when your vet wanted to keep her over night was she going to be on IV meds in hospital or was it just for observation?

| Yes, Roxy too! She had a morphine patch on for at least 5 days (maybe even 7 - I just can't remember now). I also gave her meds for at least 3 weeks (pain/anti-inflammatory) It started with an 'M' but I just can't remember it I hope the Vet gave you some good stuff for her |

| I just posted all this on Bogey's thread, but I guess I need to update Pixie's thread, too... Pixie cried a bit last night. It was sad - she never cries or whines. And she looks so pitiful... BUT here's the funny thing. When I took her out to potty earlier, she just stood there like, "I can't move. I'm not gonna try to move. I don't wanna pee. I'm just gonna stand here." I took her cone off briefy to make it easier for her to potty... 100% different dog. She perked up and took a few steps (not on her right leg - she can't use it yet). She was ready to run and play. She pottied and I put the cone back on her and... POOF! Back to "Poor, poor, pitiful me" But she's doing well. They said I could offer her some ice chips this morning, but we can't do cold stuff because of her trachea problems, so I offered just a little water. She took about 2 licks... but at least she got some. When I get home from school, I can offer her a couple bites of food and some pain medicine. And tonight she can eat normally. I guess on the UP side of things though - she's laying down, not feeling well, and not getting excited. Hence, no trachea problems at this time! Who knows - maybe the next 4-5 months of being "down" can help her trachea get stronger? Wishful thinking, I know. And as for those asking about meds... They had her on IV, but weren't going to keep it in all night. They were going to just keep her. They just kept saying she may not be ready to come home and they wanted to keep her and watch her... My issue with that is that it's NOT a hospital and no one was going to watch her. I told them that if that was the case, we needed to transfer her to a hospital where she CAN be watched. They backed down and let her come home when I wouldn't let her stay there overnight. I told them that it's not that I wanted her home - if she needed to be somewhere, then we need to put her somewhere. But not left alone. They assured me she'd be fine if I put her in a kennel and just left her alone. That's pretty much what we did. But at least we were here and up at all hours checking on her (and dealing with Bogey) so that IF there were problems, we'd have known about it. Anyway, they sent home Rimadyl for her to take. They said I can start giving that to her this afternoon - so as soon as I get home from school, she gets a couple bites of food to put a little something in her tummy and then a pill. She's not whining right now, I think she's doing ok - it's mostly the "oh pitiful me who has to wear this cone!" right now.

| Quick update on Pixie - I ran home to take care of my babies real quick... When I got home, Pixie was standing up in her cage yapping for me (she heard me come in). I took her out to potty, which she did. Then I took her on in and offered her some water - she wasn't interested in that yet, but then I offered her a couple bites of food and a pain pill. She lapped it all up in a heartbeat and licked the bowl clean. Then she took a sip of water. She seems to be doing really, really well. I'll give her a full meal tonight when I get home - but I know she must have been starving! Anyway, I pet her for a few minutes, held her, etc. I even took her cone off and gave her kisses and such. Then I had to be mean and put her cone back on and put her back in her cage... But she layed right down.

| Well, Pixie had a wonderful night. She was actually alert last night and KNEW that I was trying to make her sleep in the cage. She was NOT happy. She yapped and yapped... Finally, we made some accomodations... I laid Pixie next to me in bed, and convinced Bogey to leave her alone. She didn't move a muscle all night. I think she slept better than all the rest of us. Bogey slept at my feet.. and this morning, everyone had gotten some sleep... It's the best night we've had in a while. When I got home around 11:30 last night, I gave Pixie a full meal which she scarfed down. Then I gave her seconds. Then she went outside and peed and pooped. This morning, I offered her more than she would normally eat with intentions of her getting full and giving the rest to Bogey... she ate every bit of it. Little piggy! She is doing really well.
